Switching 1-bedroom to 2-bedroom mid-trip - same room?

I'm sure this has been asked before, but I've searched many terms, and can't find any threads.

My family of 4 is planning a stay in a 1-bedroom. Mid-trip, my Dad is going to fly down and join us, so I'd like to change to a 2-bedroom. Ideally, it would be great if they could put us in a 1-bedroom lock-off, and when my Dad arrives, hopefully the room assignor can coordinate it so that the Studio next to us is available, and we can just open the adjoining door.

Has anyone been able to coordinate this? Or did you have to pack up and move mid-trip? I expect that MS will tell me they can't guarantee it, but is it something they can note on my ressie?

We just did this when we stayed this past December at VWL. We checked into a studio which was booked for 2 weeks. We also had a 1 bedroom for the 2nd week. When I checked in at the front desk, I explained what I had and if they could make a note to have the 1 bedroom next to our studio. They made a note on the 1 beroom ressie, but said someone may take it. On the day of check-in for the 1 bedroom I went down around 8:00am to the front desk to check-in. We did get the 1-bedroom next to the studio, so it is possible.

If you let them know enough in advance, and discuss it with them again upon your check-in, they might very well be able to do it.

But they won't guarantee it. Much of it depends on the occupancy of the resort at the time, what % of folks need studios vs. 1BRs vs. 2BRS and so forth.

It's certainly worth a shot and remind them that then they wouldn't be cleaning your 1BR...it would save on housekeeping if they can coordinate it.

2) Have a Studio booked for one week, and then a 2-bedroom booked for the second week?

If it was option 1, didn't that cost you more points?

I was thinking the same thing -- that it would depend on % of folks needing Studios, 1-br's, etc.

And I also thought about your point with housekeeping...that it would be one less room they have to clean! I'll try to use that as a selling point!

I've done it several times both directions. I've always had to check in again but keep the same room(s). The one thing that could get you is if the 2 BR you have is a dedicated unit, by definition you couldn't like that to a lockoff portion.

You don't want to do 1 because there is no guarantee that the one bedroom will connect to the studio.

You will want to do 2 and make it known on each reservation that you would like to stay in the same room. You will need to be in a lock off studio and lock off two bedroom. When you check in, ask if you have been blocked into the same room for the rest of your stay. Both reservations should be in the same name - exactly the same name.

We tried to do this on our trip in October with no success. However, we were doing the opposite...had a 2 bedroom and wanted to then go down to a 1 bedroom. All the 2 bedrooms were booked, so we were unable to stay in the same room.

There are only a limited number of 2 bedroom lockoffs, so if they are all needed, they will not be able to let you have the 1 bedroom portion. Hopefully, you will have better luck than we did.
