Switched from POR to All Star Sports because...

Perhaps to YOU who does NOT have a serious phobia like me, it "doesn't make sense".....

Whoa, slow down there. They didn't say your phobia doesn't make sense.

They said your move to POP doesn't make sense, because you're about as likely to see a snake there or at any other Disney resort.

I'm sure if you search these forums, you'll find snake sightings for almost every hotel and park. It's best just to plan your trip and try to enjoy it.

On our last trip we were at TL or BB ( I can't remember which one I think TL) and we were doing the lazy inner tube ride around the waterpark. And there was a black snake swimming right across the water trying to get to the other side. Of course it was right near my innertube and I was getting nervous but the CM scooped it right up in a net. They are everywhere and I'm not a snake fan - I just keep my eyes open for them.

Do whats comfortable for you - we stayed at POR 2x and I was on the look out but never saw one snake. We loved it there - its lovely. Personally I wouldn't switch as snakes are everywhere but do whats comfortable for you.

Good luck and have fun.

To the OP:

Snake sightings depend when you're there. Snakes mate in the spring, with young snakes born from August until the end of October (therefore, more snake activity spring/summer and possibly the reason for the post-after-post snake mentionings).

If the postings make you uncomfortable, then yes, switch resports for your own peace of mind. But if staying at POR is what you really want, I hope it helps when I say that I consider POR my home-away-from-home, and have never ever seen a snake yet (chipmunks, squirrels, ducks, birds, lizards, and other small animals, yes!)

Actually most of the snakes in Florida thrive near the water so you are more likely to see them at the resorts that have water nearby.
The All Stars do NOT have a lake or lagoon nearby so I think the OP was smart to book at an All Star if she is trying to avoid snakes.
BTW:
I have not seen any ducks at the All Stars either with the exception of Donald and his nephews of course.;)

We just returned at the begingin of the month from WDW and on a HOT summer day at Blizzard beach while eating at lattawatta in the bushes there were TWO rather large snakes. . YUCK I am from NYC and well Rats are common here but not snakes . So you may want to be on teh look out they are everyehere .

Perhaps to YOU who does NOT have a serious phobia like me, it "doesn't make sense".....respectfully request that y'all refrain from making fun of me or judging me....

I'm not judging you, did you read what I said? What I said was there are snakes at ALL the resorts, so changing from one to another makes no sense. Not that being afraid makes no sense. I have plenty of phobias, I totally understand being afraid of snakes and not wanting to see them. If you were excited at being at POR then stay there, be excited. Your chance of seeing a snake at AS or POP or the GF is pretty much the same as seeing one at POR. Pretty small.

Thank you, Linda. My thoughts exactly.
(Btw, I have been reading and learning a lot from your very informative posts about the All Stars. :) )

The thing is though, you will most likely NOT see the snake, as they will see you first and leave the area. The snakes we have in the south are not highly aggressive. Poisonous, yes. But they generally do not bite humans unless cornered and provoked.

i hate to tell you this but at all stars they sit on top of the hedges and sun them selves,,,i see them all the time ,,but i look fo them my wife never see them or she would freak..we walk past the, them all the time,,they wonnt even move when you walk by,,and they wonnt hurt y ou

To the original poster:

I can honestly understand your phobia of snakes. Now granted, I don't have a phobia, but can't stand running across them; they make me quiver and run!

I think you should seriously consider not changing resorts. POR is just gorgeous. Why don't you try and get a room, say, maybe in the mansion section. My thinking is that maybe at the Bayou section, with its thick vegetation, that it might be too condusive for snakes, and your chances would be greater on seeing one there.

My next point is this (and I'm NOT being cruel or sarcastic here): Have you thought about behavioral therapy on the topic of fear of snakes? I'm serious, and I mean this with all due respect and kindness. If you could get past this, maybe not 100%, but mostly, then you might not have to worry so much if you came across one. It would make for a much more enjoyable experience, and might even change your life.

Just to make you feel better. I grew up in Florida (spent my first 25 years there), and have been to WDW too many times to count. In all of this time, I have never seen a snake the entire time I was in Florida or at WDW! Now how's that for statistics!
