My DF and I are getting married in WDW this November and plan to honeymoon at the Polynesian. Now from reading some of the negative feedback regarding the Poly over the past couple of weeks (ex. horrible room assignments, trash cans overflowing, bad maid service, and etc....), I am having some small doubts about whether we should keep our reservations at the Poly or look into switching to the GF.

The Polynesian was the first hotel I stayed at when I was a child during my first trip to Disney in 1984 so for me it's kind of cool to go back their for our honeymoon. Also, during our wedding planning session in June we had dinner at Ohana and walked the grounds a bit and my fiance fell in love with the place without ever staying there before. I think one of the best things was that it was the middle of June around 6PM and as we were walking to the GCH we could not believe how serene the place felt. Keep in mind we were staying at ASMu for our short 2-day trip which was quite louder. Still the beginning of the summer and the quiet was unbelievable.

I figured this was the best place to come for "Polynesian Resort Reassurance".;)

Many posters have come on after a trip and said they found the Poly grounds to be beautiful! I wouldn't let one or two disappointed people stop you from your dream...if it's the Poly you and your DF want, I would think hard before you actually change it.
And remember to let the people know you're on your Disneymoon wherever you are, parks or restaurants!

...But I'd keep your reservations right where they are!! Having been fortunate enough to stay at all three monorail resorts, the Poly is my easy favorite, because it really feels like "the real thing". I've even read somewhere in the boards that just "the smell of the lobby puts everyone at ease" (or something hokey like that...yet I agree:thumbsup2 ). While it's been awhile since we've stayed at the poly, I can't imagine a Disney experience there being anything less than magical:cloud9: .

(Go to V and A's for dinner, though...you WILL NOT regret it!!!)

Congrats.

Family trip to WDW in December 2007 at (you guessed it) the POLY!!!

Hi Pluto1976;
First... CONGRATS!!! Its only natural to second guess your hotel w/ all the things you heard but there are plenty of positives too and I think you should concentrate on that... WHy bother adding more stress to your planning... Just enjoy... Stay w/ the poly, like you said your DF L O V E D the resort and thats all that matters is that the two of you enjoy it together. You can always go to the GF for your 1 year anniversary!!! :goodvibes

The GF really makes their brides & grooms feel very special. This is the grandest time of your life so while I an certainly the minority on here I say the GF. It is much more of an "adult" hotel, lovely romatic bar, V&A, tea, calls almost everyday from management, treats left in your room, etc.
(Especially since the refurb in the lobby area.......I think the arcade was a terrible idea for the Great Ceremonial House:confused3)

Whatever you choose enjoy your wonderful wedding & HM.:wizard:

I'd say stick with the Poly! I just spent a week there in May and we had absolutely the most magical stay! I saw no overflowing trash cans, no trash anywhere (the grounds were immaculate), we had our rooms immaculately cleaned and bathroom stocked by the time we returned each day and we even got a new towel animal each day! 'Ohana, Kona Cafe and Captain Cook's were all wonderful, our room in Tokelau had a magical lagoon view (for a garden view price) and every cast member we came into contact with us smiled and wished us Aloha. It was so magical to watch the Electrical Water Pageant and Wishes from the Poly beach and we loved strolling the grounds in the very early morning. We also truly loved the renovated rooms! Just wonderful! :teeth:

I can't wait to stay there again one day!

Hmm, mixed feelings. For my honeymoon I'd probably go with GF. But then again, I might just move up to concierge at the Poly if I didn't already have that. I LOVE Polynesian. That is a super hard choice. But if you chose the Poly in the first place, stay with it...but go concierge! Pamper yourself for your honeymoon!

We just returned from the Poly. Didn't see any trash, had a nice quiet room with a patio which is what my dh wanted, mousekeeping was great with towel animals and special pixie dust from the staff...real flower leis and a card signed by Mickey and Minnie.

There is nothing like walking into the GCH and taking a deep breath and knowing you are at the Poly. We walked along the beach to the GF almost every am before going to the parks. And there is something about sitting on the beach, sipping a drink, watching the water pageant and fireworks.

From some old timers who just celebrated 32 years of magic at the Poly, I hope you enjoy your Poly honeymoon and return to celebrate your 32nd anniversary. Congrats

I vote for Poly! It's so romantic! Also, FWIW, my DH feels like the GF is too formal and "girly" He just dosen't feel comfortable there....not what you would want on your honeymoon! Either way, Congrats and enjoy!:bride:

Gee, makes me want to get married again and honeymoon at the Poly!!!!:rotfl:

me and finance stayed at the poly 2x. basically...if you want to feel like you are in hawaii, stay there, if you want to stay in a really fancy place, stay at GF

If you guys already know you LOVE the feel at Poly-don't switch!!
DH had always dreamed of staying at GF--(I always wanted to try Poly). We both love BCV. We decided to splurge a little for our honeymoon and split the stay between BCV and GF. We both regretted moving!! We just didn't feel like GF justified the price. We felt just as special at BCV:confused3 .
Yes, it is beautiful but just didn't feel as romantic as Poly to us.

But, YES--dinner at V&A is a must. Now that makes you feel special!!

Thanks to all of your for your advice and "Polynesian Resort Reassurrance"!!:goodvibes

I do feel better now about just keeping our reservations at the Poly and not switching to the GF. It is so funny that some of you mentioned the smell of the GCH at the Poly. To this day I remember being 8-years old and first walking into the Poly lobby and smelling that smell. Fast forward 23 years to last October I walked in and smelled it again. It is sooooo relaxing.

Also, thanks to all the GF supporters too. I agree with your thoughts about the GF and I think after were back I will work on getting my DF to stay there for our anniversary.

I will also take the advice for eating at V and A's. I was not going to get a reservation there but you all have convinced me to do so.
