Hello!

Will my husband be allowed to take his Swiss Army knife into the parks? It's so handy to have all those "tools" -- but I don't want them to confiscate it if it's not allowed.

Thanks!

Honestly, I wouldn't take it in the parks. What do you need the tools for anyways? You are on vacation!

I don't know what Disney's guest policy is, but I know that the cast members aren't allowed to carry them.

Unless you are married to MacGyver, there is no reason to bring it into the park.
Yes it will be confiscated!

MacGyver would never need a Swiss Army knife!! :rotfl2:

I carry around a small knife as well. It is very useful for opening toys, since now they love to put them in those hard plasic packages that are impossible to get them out of without a knife.

I always keep it in the diaper bag. Disney checks all bags as you enter the park. We've never had it confiscated. Although, it is thrown into the bottom of the bag so they have probably never seen it.

While I must go through the security line to have my purse checked, my husband just sails through around security because he doesn't have a bag. I know that some days he does have a small knife in his pocket. I guess they are just looking for bigger things.

what do you need a Swiss Army knife for in the parks? just wondering.

Have you seen Disney confiscate swiss army knives or even leatherman tools? I'm curious because my husband carries his on his belt and has never had a problem (and he is the one who goes through the bag check line)

Yes My mistake! Ouch! :cool1: Sorry MacGyver fans.

UPDATE! If you get caught with a knife they will confiscate it. However a Swiss army knife is rather big!

one more thing...IN A DIAPER BAG????????????????? :rolleyes2

I must say I doubt all you knife weilding maurauders are FLYING into Orlando??? Please tell me you are driving!

First Guns in the park(previous posts of late) Now knives...I swear the streets of NYC @ 3 in the am is now safer than WDW at 3 in the afternoon! ;)

We bought a cap gun in frontierland for DS(5 at the time)and don't know what we were thinking but we had a little trouble getting through security at MCO with it. Eventually the airline(TWA - wish they were still around)shipped it in a box after DS turned on the tears when they said we couldn't bring it. We figured it after we left the counter they would just throw it away and just say it got lost but it showed up.

So anyway, I HOPE these "knife weidling maurauders" are not flying either! :cool1:

I too am not understanding :confused3 why anyone would feel the need to have a knife in the parks. To me, it is just a way of making something complicated that isn't or shouldn't be complicated. Why even make it an issue :goodvibes ? Rules are rules....last time I checked a knife was a weapon :confused3

No I havent seen it...But what do you think they are looking for in Security Check points????? Bubble Gum?

Here is a website that says you cant bring knives.

http://allearsnet.com/pl/tote.htm#911

"You can still bring essentially everything you brought before, but keep the pocket knives and coolers at home."

According to the TSA website knives can legally be carried in checked luggage so I guess us "knife weilding maurauders" can fly after all??

Seriously though, you obviously don't live where men (and frankly women too) rountinely carry leathermans or "swiss army" type knives. Around here its a pretty common practice. And they use them for all sort of things, to open packages, to fix eye glasses, to open snacks, to file off the edges of something sharp.... The list goes on and on. The one thing not on the list - hurting people. These knives are not weapons, they're tools. If Disney wants to say people can't bring them in that's fine, but they've seen my husband's lots of times and never said a word.

Bombs, guns, things that can hurt large amounts of people???? Thats what I assumed they are looking for, not everyday tools people use all the time. And I never thought the actual purpose of the bag check was to "look" for anything. I thought it was to make people feel safer because they are looking.

I have been carrying a swiss army knife for the past 27 years, and I use multiple times every day. Never once in all those years have I ever used it to hurt anyone, anything or any animal (with the exception of unintentionaly cutting myself). I don't take it on vacation with me just because I don't want to end up at the airport coming home and mistakenly not pack it in my luggage and have to have it confiscated. I miss it every day that I don't have it.

There have been many times when us "knife weilding maruaders " pirate: have used our trusty knives to get some un-prepard person out of a pickle. Just because it has a blade does not make it a weapon, you can use just about any household item as a weapon. It's the way that a person uses the item that makes it a weapon.

This is where you can tell who grew up in a "country" area and who didn't. Knives are usaully used as tools; they can be used for almost anything! To only consider knives as a weapon would be the saying that you cut your steak with a weapon, doesn't sound right does it? Anything can be used as a weapon, from a shoe to a car, so why won't we have a rule at WDW that you can not bring anything in and make it a nudist camp? That way you would have no worries of a "weapon" coming into the parks.

Now what they should do is a blade size limit, that way your standard pocket knives that a lot of men carry everyday could come in, but larger, hunting knives could not.

Yikes! I didn't mean to start a big debate!!!! I should have clarified what I meant. He does NOT need the knife in the park, but the tools come in VERY handy everyday. And, the knife is just one of the tools.

And, yes, we are flying -- so you might want to watch out for DH's checked luggage. It will be in there!

From the responses I received, I see it would be easiest just to leave it at the hotel. That way we still have the tools if needed, but just not during the day.

Thank you for all your responses!

I have one on me every time that I go into any of the parks. I also have it at work everyday since it is on my keys and I work at an elementary school. If it is a small knife they aren't looking for that, they are looking for the knives that people carry into Six Flags parks the big machettes or Daniel Boone knives. As for swiss army knives being big, I have one and it has 3 things on it and it is about 2" long closed.
