Swinging Gondolas

I've never been on the swinging Gondolas, but I've always wanted to. I get terrible motion sickness from rides like the Teacups and Star Tours, rough ferry rides in choppy waters, but not rides like Screamin, Soarin, ToT, large roller coasters etc. Basically rides that have a lot of spinning action make me horribly sick.

Has anybody ridden on the swinging Gondolas? Did you get sick? I imagine that they would probably feel much like a boat in choppy waters.

I'm not familiar with the swinging gondolas... Are they in disneyland?

I rode the swinging cars on mickeys fun wheel, and noticed that it was the only ride in DCA that had puke bags... Which I did end up using and have never been back on that ride :(

Yes, we have ridden Mickey's Wheel of Death. Yes, you can get sick fairly easily. I don't usually. But if you are prone to motion sickness, I wouldn't recommend it.

Don't do it! :rotfl2:

I'm not usually prone to motion sickness and that's the ONLY ride that has ever made me feel awful while riding it. I didn't feel good for the rest of the day. The non-swinging cars don't bother me, but the swinging ones are really frightening.

Mickeys Fun Wheel has both swinging and non swinging (2 separate lines). If you are prone to motion sickness, ride the non swinging.

Sorry, but I agree with the PPs that said if you're prone to getting motion sick, avoid the Ferris Wheel. I did the non-swinging ones once and even on those I got slightly queasy (I think it's still the circular motion). I've never tried the swinging ones because I figured if the non-swinging ones were bad, the swinging ones would be awful.

I've done the non-swinging ones and those don't bother me at all. But it sounds like the swinging ones are pretty bad!

If you're prone to motion sickness I would give MFW a pass completely. Loading times are always long. If you can't ride the swinging gondolas, then it's really nothing more than a plain, old Ferris Wheel with a really long wait.

I didn't get sick but I was utterly terrified. Disclaimer: I'm a coaster wimp, too, and have never been in the TOT, since it scares me off to enter something that has "terror" in its name.

I've mostly heard bad things about Mickey's Ferris Wheel, so if you know that you are prone to motion sickness, I'd skip.

I've never been on it though, which I think I'd like to change when I go in November even though I will probably be terrified! I LOVE roller coasters and thrill rides in general, but ferris wheels terrify me! I think it's because I don't like being mostly still when I am up high. If I'm moving or falling it's less scary for some reason :confused3 I want to try it just to say I did it though :scared:

Me, DD 8, and DS 9 rode the swinging gondolas for the first time last week. We definitely ejoyed the swinging ones the best! We also love roller coasters. No queasiness for us at all. I was afraid to ride it after seeing all the posts on DIS

I can ride (pretty much) all the roller coasters at Six Flags, but the swinging gondolas make me freak out! :scared:

We always ride the swinging ones when we go on Mickey's Wheel of Death. Love them. Even though the majority on here always say they hate the swinging ones, the line has always been longer when we go and there's two swinging cars for every non-swinger.

Must be lots of closet swingers out there.

I really tried to refrain from making this sound wrong, but I couldn't help myself.

If you're at all prone to motion sickness, definitely skip the swinging gondolas. I sat through a ride watching my sister choke back the nausea and very nearly lose it completely. She doesn't like spinning rides but thought the swinging motion would be OK. Not! Ever since, it's been strictly stationary gondolas for all of us. Yes, it's pretty much an ordinary ferris wheel ride, but we find it relaxing and the view from up there is amazing!

The swinging gondolas on "Mickey's Fun Wheel of Death" are the one ride that I just can't bring myself to do at the park. Maybe one day I will, but considering that the tea cups make me quite nauseous, I'm not laying money on it.

Great - I just spit coffee all over my screen!! :rotfl2:

For the OP - this is the only ride in DLR with puke bag dispensers that I know of. That should probably answer your question. ;)

This was my DS exactly. He wanted to try the stationary ones because he doesn't care for the swinging ones. He hated it even more than the swinging ones. He didn't like being still up there and really didn't like being able to hear the other cars swinging around him. I told him the swinging of the other cars is a distraction so you don't noticed how high up you are.

Bahahaha - I'm out of the closet (of Mickey's Wheel of Death swingers, that is) :lmao:

DD and I love the swinging gondolas. DH tolerates them and DS really doesn't like them but will go sometimes.
