Does anyone have a swing set for their kids? Specifically a Rainbow Playset or a Creative Playthings playset?

We are looking at purchasing a set for our kids. Our neighbor says she got hers for 50% off around Christmas. The set we're looking at at both has a 10' slide, a 5'x5' fort, a rock climbing wall, a ladder and three swings. The prices are between $1899 and $2700 - depending on the maker, the wood and the accessories. These are "sale" prices, but I'm wondering if we should wait until winter when most people are NOT buying a playset.

Any thoughts or experiences?

Thank you!!!

When our kids were little most of the neighbors had Rainbow swing sets in their yards. When we bought our house there was a metal set from Sears already there. It was a unique shape, a front to back vs side to side one with money bars in the middle. It was probably a $150 set and guess where the neighbor kids all played, on our set, not the $3000 sets. Ours was more fun I guess.

We bought the "make it yourself" one at Home Depot. You buy the lumber seperately, and then the kit. DH and DD enjoyed spending time together 2 summers ago making it. The kids just love it! :)

Oh, can you tell me more about this make it yourself kit? My parents are going to buy my son a playset next year (combined birthday and x-mas gift) but we have a really small yard. All I really want is a nice sized slide and a swing. I do like the look of the wood sets though. Everything I see around here is close to a $1000 and HUGE. I don't have the space or money for something like that. I was actually thinking of asking my dad just to try and build a small set, but if you can customize this kit, it could work.

I got one from walmart called the Durango. It was kinda flimsy but I spent $30.00 on some 2x4's and some quickrete and shored it up nicely.

Total investment $279.00

It has three swings, a slide, ladder, and climbing wall!

We have the smallest freestanding Rainbow Playsystem and DD loves it. Even tho it is the smallest, it is still pretty big. She has the fort up top, ramp going up, slide coming down and three swing positions. We paid extra to have the wooden roof vs. the canvas one, they always seems to rip and wear. We also bought an extra panel to enclose the fort as opposed to having a ladder off the back. At the time, DD was only 2 and we wanted fewer places for her to plunge off of :p

We have had it four seasons now and I need to reseal it this fall, but no splinters, it is strong and sturdy.
