Hi
Is anybody worried about swine flu.
1.catching it while your there(disney is a very crowded place)
2.catching it on the plane(just one person on the plane has it and there's a good chance we all get it)
3.the chance that all international travel is suspended
4.dose your travel insurance cover you

Hi - fortunetly it is appearing that swine flu is no more harmful than normal flu, which you could catch at anytime.

Obviously, you are right to be concerned that you could get it - but you could also get a bad cold, another virus, food posioning etc. All you can do is keep washing your hands and use anti bacterial soap.

Unless the virus mutates into something more harmful there is no way international travel would be suspended - its too late for that, its all over the UK.

I would try not to worry and have a fantastic holiday :goodvibes

I am worried about catching it but I'm trying to keep it in perspective, there was a swine flu expert on ITN the other day and he said its actually quite hard to catch it in public places, kids are most at risk of catching it when playing with friends and they then bring it into the home, even then he said there is only about a 25% chance of catching it off a family member. I've stocked up on hand wash and wipes and I'm hoping that will be enough to keep us from catching it. :wizard:

To be honest you only need to look at the amount of people in the country that it has actually killed which is about 20, and pretty much every person had underlying health problems anyway. regular flu is far more deadly than what has been around with swine flu.
I personally really wouldn't worry about it but then thats the sort of person I am and i understand your concerns.

Didn't have to go anywhere to get the swine flu! I wouldn't worry about it - I've had far worse normal flu that what I felt having swine flu. I even cancelled a holiday to mexico due to worrying about getting it. Good thing that came out of that was the choice to move holiday destination to WDW!! :rotfl:

i'm worried about it as i have heard today that pregnant woman are higher risk and being pregnant with twins and going away in 6 weeks is a worry. DH works in London and travels on the tightly packed tubes everyday and so far is fine

But swine flu is just like seasonal flu, they both can kill no matter where you are and i think if you careful then it will only be mild symptoms just like normal flu

I'm probably in the minority here in that I'm not worried about it at all. The way I look at it is that I have no control over it so there's no point worrying until such time as it affects us.

I think that you are right to be concerned. I am too. But as a PP said, you have got just as much chance of getting another illness, as you have od getting the SF, when we travelled home last time from WDW I got food poisoning on the plane, which made me very ill. So you can't plan for these things. Just make the best the best of it. :)

Nothing will keep me away from DisneyWorld....including Swine Flu...:rotfl:

After overcoming my fear of flying to go there, Im not giving in to Swine Flu!!

my worry is if you have caught it just before you are due to leave will they still let you on the plane

my two younger children are just getting over it ..hubby is in the throes of it but not too bad
my elder children and i have all had sore throats and thats its ..but what if my parents, bil2b and brothers get it ..will they get refused :confused3

This is also my biggest worry to, that any one of us catch it the week before we go.craigs bride how long did it last on your kids (hope they are ok). we go on the 15th august so could get it and be clear by then but more like we would get it one at a time so someone would have it on the 15th, god i hope not the kids are so looking forward to disney.

Agreed - my biggest fear is that we get it three days before we are leaving and are too sick to travel! Even based on the governments worst case scenario figues it is not going to be the apocolyptic event that the media would have us believe.

Agree with Joh, there is no way, short of holing yourself up in a bunker, to guarentee you won't get it so if possible try no to waste too much precious holiday planning and holiday enjoying time worrying over it.

So was your sore throat actually Swine Flu?

Jack's nephews (1 and 3yrs old) have both been really ill with it, but their parents, and us and my parents, just kinda had bad colds.

Is there a chance that was Swine Flu for us?

I'm worried about getting SF while on holiday adn losing a couple of my meticulously planned WDW days!!

the only thing that determines swine flu and a colf is the temperature, if you have a temperature over 38 then you may have it.

I had to have mine monitored yesterday as I have a cold and am pregnant so my doctors are worried but no temperature so just a normal cold

My dd3 had a very high temp for at least 3-4 days , she started coming down with it on the monday she was completely over in a week but still has her cough
the docs told me to keep ds 6 months indoors for 5 days which by yesterday he started acting like his normal self but still has his chesty cough this being day 7 today
so i'd say roughly about 7 days

Torsie . i dont think mine was due to SF just lack of sleep this past 2 weeks .

My concern is what these "underlying lillnesses" are that seem to be blamed for the people with Swine flu dying.

I heard today that Asthma was been classed as an underlying illness and gee that puts my DS7 straight at risk.

I wish the government would just be straight with us and tell it like it is. I think the problem we have in this country is that we hear so many different stories from so many different sources that you end up never truely knowing for sure the truth, and even when the government do attempt to reassure us no one has any trust in them anyways:headache:

I think I ranted then, Did I rant? Sorry :flower3:
