You can't get it more than once. Once you get it, you'll have antibodies against it, keeping you from getting it again. This is actually the very reason that vaccines work.

That is the opposite of what I was told by my Dr, the hospital and the pharmacy yesterday!

I think though there are different strains. You could get a different type. Unless they are specifically tested, you can't be sure the original person has H1N1.

They H1N1 is constantly changing so you can get it more than one time- which is why the vaccines is not a sure bet even on H1N1. I thought I was out of the woods being I just got over it- and yea it was crappy and not a great few days but no way in heck would I intentionally expose anyone to this! My feeling on people who do the "parties" are the same as the ones that do it with chicken pox to their children- they are insane and should have their parental rights looked into!!!

I just don't understand the logic of this. This virus is spreading so quickly, it seems like if not vaccinated in time, many will get it one way or another just by living their lives. And like pps said, isn't school one big swine flu party? It is by us, and don't forget the grocery store and restaurants and everywhere else we go.

My feeling on people who do the "parties" are the same as the ones that do it with chicken pox to their children- they are insane and should have their parental rights looked into!!!

Not exactly with the chicken pox. The reason people used to do that with chicken pox is so that the children would get it while they were kids, because while chicken pox is a nuisance for kids, it can be life threatening for an adult. They wanted their child to get it sooner, rather than later.

Thats not true- kids die every year from the chicken pox...why would anyone willing give their child a diesease that they could die from???

Serious complications from chickenpox include bacterial infections which can involve many sites of the body including the skin, tissues under the skin, bone, lungs (pneumonia), joints, and blood. Other serious complications are due directly to infection with the varicella-zoster virus and include viral pneumonia, bleeding problems, and infection of the brain (encephalitis). Many people are not aware that before a vaccine was available approximately 10,600 persons were hospitalized and 100 to 150 died as a result of chickenpox in the U.S. every year.

Can a healthy person who gets varicella die from the disease?
Yes. Many of the deaths and complications from chickenpox occur in previously healthy children and adults. From 1990 to 1994, before a vaccine was available, about 50 children and 50 adults died from chickenpox every year; most of these persons were healthy or did not have a medical illness (such as cancer) that placed them at higher risk of getting severe chickenpox. Since 1999, states have been encouraged to report chickenpox deaths to CDC. These reports have shown that some deaths from chickenpox continue to occur in healthy, unvaccinated children and adults. Most of the healthy adults who died from chickenpox contracted the disease from their unvaccinated children.

Oh, good.. I though maybe I was special in having my question (from a forbidden new thread) pointed out like this - with contempt and impatience. It's nice to know we aren't suppose to talk about H1N1 AT ALL and I'm just like everyone else.

How silly of people to want to talk about something that is present and effecting their lives. I don't know what's wrong with people. Did you let the news stations know they aren't to talk about it anymore because you're bored? Of course, there's an easy solution here - don't open the offending threads. There's been an awful lot of talk about weddings lately, too. Perhaps a protest against those? Is there a list somewhere of approved topics??

This H1N1 virus hasn't changed significantly since it came on the scene.

Exactly & all of a sudden so many people are giving advice when their not a medical professional.
No wonder everyone is running around like chickens without heads.

I appreciate the prior attempts at sarcasm but if you did a search on swine flu prior to posting yet another thread it would not only help answer your questions it would cut down on the same topic being constantly repeated.
