The flu has been hitting hard here in the south- and it's found it's way to my house. :sad2:

I just wanted to tell you how it feels so you know what to look for.

First, a sore throat, head feeling heavy, tired. Then quickly you'll feel run down, weak, sick to your stomach (my son had the throwing up part), chills, muscles ache, and cough. It comes on in stages, but mine came altogether in the course of 1 day. Woke in the morning with a sore throat and by the night time everything else was there.
My 12 year old, son has been running a fever (101) since Friday and still today. He's the sickest.

I didn't get my son started on Tamiflu until his 3rd day. I didn't realize it was the flu until yesterday. I started the first day of symptoms and it made a big difference. He didn't get so lucky... he's still totally down, not eating, running fever, coughing.

I know so many people in our area with it. The dr said yesterday every kid that walks in the door either has strep or the flu.

I'm waiting to see if hubby, son and his girlfriend come down with it. Fingers crossed they won't. Actually, praying they won't!!!!

I thought I'd share my story, in hopes it might help. :flower3:

Bummer! I hope your family feels better soon. It totally stinks that your insurance won't cover the Tamiflu completely.

Wow, I had no idea that Tamiflu was so expensive. I hope you all feel better soon.

We went to our pediatrician last week for my DS11s persistent sore throat. No strep, thankfully. The doctor said he hit his "personal best" that week, one day he had 10 out of 32 patients with swine flue. I was sick that weekend, but only tired and run down. My DH was feeling very bad for a couple of days, but he got better quickly. This weekend my DS9 is running a fever and feeling lethargic. I have no idea if any of us had swine flu, if so our cases were mild.

The pediatrician said he doesn't recommend Tamiflu because it has some side effects. I don't know what they are, though.

I hope you are feeling better soon.

UGH.

Been in bed since 7 : 30 last night- I feel like someone has been kicking the snot out of my legs and arms. Even my toe joints hurt. Owwwww.
Sore throat, sniffles, sneezes. Slight cough. Fever- 101.7.

Don't know if it's the flu or not but if it is- mine is mild, compared to regular flu.

Jo

10 out of 32 patients with swine flu or regular flu? I know here in GA we have very strict criteria with the public health lab of what specimens/symptoms we can send them. We have to call and get an approval etc. Then it takes 2-3 days for results to come back. That is opposed to the regular flu a/b test that we do here in the hospital. Treatment is same regardless.

Hope you are all feeling better soon. I know that we are testing just about everyone who comes into the ER. Most of our positives for "flu" are kids though.

yes! That's exactly right... it's milder than the regular seasonal flu. (so far, for most people)

You sound like you have it.

It's funny because out of the 3 of us in the house who have it- it's different for all of us. My son is the sickest- think of having a bad case of the flu, that's him. Think of a moderate case is me and my daughter has like what you guys had. She's run down, tired, chilled, sore throat, but still able to function.

We had to get the tamiflu because of the asthma.

Thanks guys. I am feeling better than yesterday- and actullay my son just ate alittle soup. It's the first thing in 2 days. He just asked to take a shower. So he's doing a little better too!

Are you running a temperature? I have a sore throat, some congestion, a slight headache and feel a little run down, but it really just feels like a cold--no fever. My daughter has had the same thing for a week. Haven't been to the doctor since I think it's a cold, but maybe I should??

I'm not running a temp and either is my 16 year old dd. Only my 12 year old son. But I started on Tamiflu on the first day so who knows if one would have started?

You may just have a mild case of it? Seriously, I've had colds worse than this... well, a cold is totally different. With this I have very mild 'cold' symptoms- it's more of the run down, achy tired feeling with a sore throat. You feel like a truck ran you over- tire easy- dizzy- yucky over all feeling.
It really feels different then a cold. With a cold you'll have more congestion- and not so achy run down feeling. At least, with our experience. My son does have a deep cough. But he had every symptom to the max. He was the perfect check list for swine flu. There was no doubt he has it. plus he tested for it.
My daughter, I would have question it, but the dr said with my son being in the house and her symptoms- she had to start tamiflu because of her asthma.

Sorry if I'm just rambling.

They would not even prescribe Tamiflu here in SC a couple weeks ago, except for those 5 and under, or with pre- existing health conditions. Apparently, it was so widespread here that there was a shortage of the drug. The only way we got in to see the dr. is beacause I thought it might be strep. My dh, dd, and ds all had the swine flu.

Hope you ALL are feeling better soon!

I tested positive for the flu but the state of ky has stopped every pos flu from being snt in to determine if it's swine flu. Only pregnant women, people that live in communal housing (like nursing homes) and those hospitalized will they run futher tests to see if it's swine flu or not.
But they did tell me that 100% of them came back positive for swine flu that did meet that criteria and were sent in and they were sure I had the swine flu also.
It's the longest, drawn out flu I think I've ever had and it has exhausted me.

Hope you feel better soon. We had huge outbreaks in our area in May and June. I had the worst "cold" of my life in June during the height of the outbreaks. By the time I went to the doctors he said it was too late to test (I was 6 days in my illness). So not sure if it was a cold or swine flu.

Anyhow, we have not had any new cases at the clinic I work at since June. Though we are ramping up for our regular flu shot clinics this week and we are anxiously waiting the swine flu immunizations we were told we were getting. Though we were told not to expect them for another 6-8 weeks. Keeping my fingers crossed w/ the kids back in school the outbreaks don't start again before the immunizations arrive.

I'm scared of getting it. Whatever virus I had in June wasn't so bad, it was the aftermath that lasted a few weeks. I had severe congestion and it made my asthma act up the worst it ever has. It took me multiple breathing treatments and multiple shots of Kenalog to get rid of the inflammation in my lungs.

Sorry to hear you all are sick. Hope all of you feel so much better by morning.

I am so sorry to hear that your house has been hit by H1N1 and hope that those that are not sick remain healthy.

Well, unfortunately I think that's what my DH's step brother has. He stayed with us Friday night because we took the youth group at our church to Carowinds yesterday (that's an amusement park in right on the NC SC boarder) and he already had a bad cough and was on an antibiotic for what they thought was a sinus infection. On the way home last night from Carowinds (where he rode every ride with my DH) he said he was feeling awful and dizzy and he got sick at the restaurant we stopped at. He slept the whole way home, even though the loudness of the car full of teenagers we had with us (we took my Yukon and the church van) and then got on our couch while we waited for my DH's father to pick him up. So now, I am really praying that my DH and I don't get it...that the other teenagers who hung out with him and rode home in our car don't get it...and that he gets better very soon! I actually had an earache yesterday and today and a lot of sinus pressure along with loosing my voice completely, and coughing up green stuff (TMI I know!) so I really hope that I don't catch that on top of what I already have. More so, I pray that my DH doesn't get it because he is very stubborn about going to get meds for anything, and very rarely stays home from work. Please, please pray that we don't get it!

ahhh, Carowinds I live about 30 mins from there.

I'm sorry this poor kid was so sick, but yeah it sound like it. It just wipes you out. Yesterday I don't remember falling asleep on the sofa - and I never nap. When I woke up I just couldn't move- It took me an hour to roll off of the sofa onto the floor so I could get up to check on my son. Then, I fell asleep again some time later. Again it took me 30 mins just to get out of bed to give my son his medicine. My son has literally been out of bed a matter of 20 mins today. I put him in the shower, hoping it would help the fever and just help him feel better as far as body aches go. He just fell back in bed when he was done.

I will keep you and your family in my prayers. I've been praying my DH and DS won't catch it. My dh has to work- we really need the money. For the last 2 days I keep having panic attacks over it. :scared1: I woke up during the night in a major panic. DH said I wan't making much sense but could tell I was stressing out! So I know how you feel.

Hang in there it's going to be a long winter season!!

Sorry to hear about you guys being sick! You can add my son and me to the list. Took him to the Dr. on Sat., he tested positive, went to 6 stores for Tamiflu before we finally found/received it & today I have came down with it - feel awful!!

im feeling run down, head hurts, stomach is queezy and I just want a nap. No sore throat yet.... Swine flu is bad here too. Hopefully my boss has a plan for when her subs get sick..

Sounds like you have a sinus infection. I get them all the time have those same symptoms. Drink tons of water to help loosen the green stuff and get it out of your head. Another thing that is great is to drink hot tea. I don't know what is different about hot tea over any other hot drink but it really does help. You can sweeten it too, doesn't matter, as long as you drink it.

Hope you & your husband don't get what his step-brother has. And I hope his step-brother gets better real quick.

Oh and I forgot to mention that is MONSOONED on us at Carowinds yesterday afternoon, so the enitre youth group (except me) decided it would be fun to dance and play in the torrential downpour:eek: Even my DH and the youth minister (who is about our age) did! I had my poncho on and stayed under a shelter shaking my head and taking pics. I'm sure that doesn't help matters for people staying healthy:sad2: It was cute to watch though lol.
