Swimming?

We are contemplating upgrading to CR or Poly from POR next thanksgiving.
We're arriving on 11/29 until 12/8

I know the swimming topic has been around before but I can't remember a lot of the input.
Is any part of this time frame swimmable or is it out of the question?
What are the temps like?

I hate to have an awesome pool like the polys looking at us and not be able to swim.

It really depends. Last year during that time it was extremely hot, near 90 and humid, so it was definitely swimmable. But sometimes it's a lot cooler than that, maybe high of 70, where swimming might be questionable. But since you're there for 10 days, I'd be really surprised if you didn't get at least a few days hot enough to swim.

Go weather.com and search for the average temperatures during that time of year. That will give you a sense of how swimmable the weather will be.

You could probably swim, but my friend went down there @ Thanksgiving and never used the pool (too chilly.) POR has a decent pool, and not only that but I imagine the resort would look AWESOME during Thanksgiving time. Enjoy!

It really depends! I would say that most of the time the weather is swimmable that time of year. Average for that time of year is close to 80, and the pools are heated. I think your odds are good. Plus, if your kids are like mine, they will be in that pool even if ice hangs off the tips of their noses!

Weather is so unpredictable because Thanksgiving week last year(the week before) was in the 60's and there were snow flurries one night. Check accuweather for a 15 day forecast or weather .com for a 10 day forecast.

I would book the Contemporary if I were you, just because if it is too cold to swim you will probably still want to use the hot tub and the Poly doesn't have a single one!!!

Not to split hairs, but we arrived a few days before Thaknsgiving and stayed eight days - until the Wednesday after Thanksgiving. It was VERY cold the first few days. WE didn't even go to a park the first day. We went tot he outlet mall for a few hours and that was plenty of outdoor time for us. That was the night they had snow flurries. The next day was slightly better, but by 6pm we'd had enough of the cold wind blowing on us. We opted to have dinner off property, so we could run to the car after dinner.
The end of our trip was when it warmed up, and the forcasters were calling it a heatwave.

The year before we arrived the Sunday after Thanksgiving, and that was our only really warm day (low 80's) the other days it got up to the low 70's but was cool at night and the morning - so not really swim weather. We did go on our last day because we really wanted to (AKL), but it was too cold to stay for long or to hang out poolside after we got out.

Speaking as a Florida native, the weather here is.....fickle. It can be 30 degrees one year and 75-80 the next. The one thing I do know is that the pools are heated. But to me that swimming when it is too chilly outside is a recipe for a cold. Hope this helps. Jennifer

We're in Michigan so we are so used to weather extremes and unpredictability.
One day last week it was 95 (In october ) and a few days later we were in the 50's.

High 70's to us is perfect weather. I think if it's in the upper 70's we'd feel ok about swimming.

Being from Pennsylvania, we feel the same way: over 70 degrees, we hit the pool. It's like summer to us. However, the Florida natives thought we were crazy when we went swimming at Daytona Beach in November.

We stayed at the Contemporary on our last night, Sept 22nd. We checked in around 4 PM, and then headed to the pool. It was FREE-E-E-ZING cold! Per the lifeguard, the pool had been even colder (don't know how) a few days earlier. Only a handful of people, mostly teenagers, were in the water. The hot tub was fairly crowded though. We were very disappointed that a high price hotel like the Contemporary didn't have the pool warm enough to even tolerate the water, let alone enjoy it. The small grandkids did have a fun time in the splash area, though.

We were in WDW from 12/1-12/10 this past year (2006) and it was about 85 the first 3 days we were there then it dropped down to the low 50's for the rest of week. We're from CT and we were FREEZING! No swimming for us...even though the pools are heated, the air was just too cold!

We stayed Nov 29-Dec 6, 2006. Most of our stay it was hot and humid. I would guess a few days out of your 10 day vacation would be warm enough to swim . Bring your bathing suits & hope for the best.
