I've been looking for a place to swim with dolphins while I'm on my Disney Honeymoon, and I read something about a tour they do in Epcot that you can swim with dolphins. Has anyone ever done this?? Do you recommend it?

I want to do this so bad!!!! You cn do it at the living seas in epcot. You don't really get to swim with them, more like get in the water with them and get your picture taken,it's called the dolphin encounter.

We looked into this and decided that a day at Discovery Cove was a better value. It's more expensive, but you get to actually swim around and interact with dolphins for part of the day, and the rest of the day you can snorkel with tropical fish and rays and float around a lazy river. The Epcot one doesn't last very long and you are only in the water with the dolphin for a few minutes.

Also, if you check Mousesavers.com, they usually have a code for saving money on Discovery Cove admission. :thumbsup2

Ohh, that sounds awesome!! Is this pretty close to Disney?? We're not going to rent a car while we're there.

I was reading about this, and from what I read it seems that you're not guarenteed to interact with the dolphins! I really want to do it though, I think I'll read up more on it! Thanks!

At Discovery Cove if you pay for the Dolphin Interaction package, you are guaranteed to interact with them. They take out small groups and each of you gets to swim around hanging on to a dolphin. If you pay for the cheaper non-dolphin interaction package you can do everything but the dolphin interaction - swimming with rays, tropical fish, etc.

It's over the road from SeaWorld.

You can get the Lynx bus 50 from the Transportation and Ticket Centre to Sea World's car park (about $1.50 pp each way), and just outside the main gates to SeaWorld there is a courtesy phone you use to call Discovery Cove and someone runs right over in a car and picks you up :thumbsup2
They also take you back and they actually dropped us back off at the bus stop rather than going back through the carpark to Seaworld!

Or you could always get a taxi!!

I definitely recommend DC - my DF and I had a fantastic time back in 2006 - it was worth every penny and we would go back if we could :lovestruc

Did you read the article about the woman who swam with the dolphins, and they tried to "protect" her, and she came home and found out she was pregnant.

I don't remember the exact details... I could look it up though. I'm a massage therapist, and I specialize in pregnancy massage, so I save stuff like that to my computer... let me find it for you.

thanks!! and i cant wait to go get a pre-natal massage...i think ill go when i get a little bigger and have more back pain lol...too bad you dont live in south fl!!!!!!!!

Ok, sorry to disappoint, but I couldn't find it anywhere, I even googled it. Anyway, I did find other info for you.

Usually, pregnant women are not allowed to go swimming with dolphins for several reasons. Dolphins can detect the baby in the womb using sonar. It's pretty much like getting a sonogram.

They can't swim with them because:

1. Most of the time, dolphins are so "interested" in the pregnant women, that they only want to spend time with them, and ignore the other guests in the dolphin swim encounter.

2. Dolphins swim, eat, and poop in the same water, therefore there is a risk of getting salmonella, and transferring it to your baby.

3. Insurance companies don't want to go there.

4. Dolphins are wild animals, and there is a chance of being aggresive, causing a great deal of harm to your baby.

Alot of the time, it is up to the place as to whether or not they will let you, but most of the time it is a no. Sad, because I bet it would be fun. Plus I've heard dophins have a very strong "mothering" instinct.

HTH

Oh, I've heard massages work wonders on pregnant women... of course I can't give you a personal account, but I can vouch my career on it lol. YOu should definitely do it! I love what I do. My first pregnancy massage that I gave, as I was rubbing the belly, the baby would follow my hands around and around lol!

I live in SC, that's pretty close, I'm coming to Disney in June, you should come in too, I'd be happy to lend a fellow DISbride a massage :lmao:

Aww OMG that make's me want to cry!!!I love dolphin's they are my favorite. How sweet is that.:lovestruc

lurker here. Yes, pregnant women can swim with the dolphins at Discovery Cove. Admission usually comes with 7 days admission to Sea World, as well. It's an amazing experience, and really shouldn't be missed, if you can swing it.

As with anything involving pregnancy, check with your OB.

Discovery Cove is great and there is loads to do. The Dolphin experience in the lagoon where you meet the dolphins is out of this world. You can get a ticket where lunch is included, well recommended. You can then spend the rest of your day lazing in the sun and snorkelling round. You can get out and explore while swimming round, they have tropical birds e.t.c.
It's one of my favourite places, the dolphins were sooooo lovely :goodvibes Happy memories!
