Swimming in December?

Hi all,

We always go to WDW in the Spring but I got that discount email and we are considering a short mid-December trip. One concern I have is whether it will be warm enough to swim for my kids.

Any thoughts?

We have been to WDW 3 times in December. We've only been able to swim a little. On our last December 2003 trip, we didn't get to swim once in 9 days (sooo cold!). I would still go though. There is a chance you will have some warm days and the decorations, Christmas shows and parade, etc. make it a great time to go. The crowds will start picking up around the 20th, so you may want to consider this. Have a great time!

We were there last december 28-January5, and it was in thei high 70's to low 80's during the day. We were able to swim. At night tho, it was a little chilly, but people were in the pool.

We had so much fun, we are going back this CHristmas!

Although the weather in Dec. can be iffy, the pools are heated.....just check out the weather for the Orlando area before you finish packing, kids can take colder water than us older people....................besides you are from Maine! When I lived in Wisconsin when the thermometer hit 60 it was summer! So I think you will be fine....:teeth:

Oh Come on now I thought you people from Maine cut holes in the ice to go swimming up there:smooth: :teeth: sorry just kidding I live next door in New Hampshire and get that from people in Mass.:hyper:

Really it depends what you are use to I remember being in Phoenix with people walking around in Down vests at night but me and friend thought it was perfect swimming weather. All the pools at Disney are heated, just stay low in the water, can't be any worse then some of the days we had this july here.

Enjoy your trip we are going in Jan. and had some of the same comcerns.

Sure hope it's warm enough to swim in December but we're bringing mittens just in case!

LOL! Since I wasn't born in Maine I will always be "from away" to real Mainers -- that's my excuse for being a cold water wimp.

Thanks for the advice all you December WDW veterans! We have some hard thinking to do. Even the mere thought of an unplanned trip to WDW throws everything "off-kilter"!

For NYE. We were swimming nearly every day. It was in the low 80s outside and cooled to the 70s (AM was colder). We wore layers. As the day progressed, the sweatshirts and pants came off (easy removal zipper sections on pants!)

Ya never know about the weather. We've been at Disney in early and late Sept., early Oct., Thanksgiving, NYE. If it rains, it can get damp and chilly. Outside, we have gone from 50s to 100 degrees!!!!! (Not in the same trip!) My DD was 4 1/2 when we went the first time and we were dying in 98 degrees (late Sept.).

Hope that helps. Oh, and the pools are well heated. It's just getting out of them if it's cool...

Hey Mainebound
I thought you must be from away (love that term) you have been around real locals I can tell.

What part of Maine are you in?

Dave
