SWGE: Fan Discussion and Opening Day Anticipation

I know I’m jumping the gun here and we likely will have a better idea on strategies once it opens but I’m a planner and I can’t help but start!

For those that are going this summer: what are your strategies for enjoying SWGE and navigating the crowds as of now?

My plan is to have a TS reservation at least everyday, utilize dining packages for Fantasmic! and WOC, Rope Drop every day, and of course- use MaxPass.

We always take a break in the afternoon to go to the hotel and swim in the summer- I’m wondering if we’ll see the park reach capacity on some days (!!) which would make leaving a bad idea. We’re going in August.

We’re going with friends who have never been to Disney before so the more I prepare them (and myself!) the better!

I’m curious too if there will be much of a difference between using our Magic Morning to line up for SWGE or just showing up at RD. I hate the idea of using my MM to just wait in a line...

So far it appears that SWGE will not be open for MM. That may change but that is what Disney has announced so far. So skip that idea.

Also, at first they are using a reservation system for SWGE so whether you can "enjoy SWGE" depends on whether you are able to get a reservation or not. It is possible they may drop the reservation system at some point but that is how they are starting.

As for strategies on crowds, it would seem to me these have not changed. Arrive at RD, use FP (or, better MP), take an afternoon break to your (hopefully) close by hotel, come back in the evening and stay as long as you can at night. You seem to have that in mind already so that will still be the way to go.

Whether the parks reach capacity or not depend on the SWGE reservation system. My guess is they will reach capacity on May 31 and near that time but not after.

Oh I know it’s not open for MM! I meant using your MM to just get in line for when it opens at the regular time! :music:

I just wonder if that would give you and advantage to being at the front of the line even if you did have to spend that hour in line...

I’m also talking about after the reservation system ends which Disney has said is June 24th. I’m sure it’ll be a madhouse at that point.

Well then, you are asking questions about SWGE that no one knows the answer to yet. Not worth worrying about until we know more.

Agree. Speculation just spreads rumors -- which only adds to the stress people are already feeling about this. Better to keep an open mind and wait for official word. In the meantime, the best we can do is plan well, research well, have a plan and a back up plan, have lots of patience and a positive attitude -- which is what we tell people here all the time anyway!
OP: an August trip leaves plenty of time to read the news, updates, tips, and strategies that will surely be posted here once SWGE opens. At that time, you'll have facts, not rumors, for your trip planning. And by the time of your trip dates, you'll have strategies that work! Look at Cars Land -- very shortly after it opened, the "Wide Right" strategy was posted here. And that tip worked very well. When MP came on the scene, the tips for RSR FPs and MP were posted here right away. And the updated tips on that are still being posted now. Don't worry -- you'll get the scoop here and be prepped by the time of your trip!

Well, I’ve seen rumors spread all over these boards as it is and that wasn’t my intention to try and add to that.

Just thought it’d be fun to chat about because my group and I are excited.

But if that’s not welcome here then okay!

And I’m not really worried- I’m excited and was just hoping to find others to talk to that were excited as well since many of the other threads about it are dominated by rumors and dread...

Like for example- what droid do you want to get? I want a blue r-2 unit and my plan is to do that day one! Or what do you all think the lightsaber shop will be like? I think it sounds like Ollivanders and I’m so stoked so my plan is to get there at opening!

I mean, encouraging us not to talk about it and plan is like asking me not to breathe at this point. I’ve been looking forward to this land opening since it was announced and I just want to chat with people about it and find out what everyone is planning or thinking...

Oh, excitement is good -- and we're all very excited here! But it's important to help everyone keep a cool head at the same time. There's enough hysteria out there as it is, and this board needs to remain a place of sanity for everyone when they need a break. :)
If the theme of this thread is meant to be discussion about anticipation and excitement, you might want to change the post title to reflect that. Pretty sure lots of posters will want to join this thread!

Why was my post deleted? I was genuinely expressing concern about the ROTR rumors since after this I found out this is a rumor free board? Sorry if I offended anyone!

On that note, is anyone also hoping that planning tons of TS reservations will help with lines for food? I save for months in advance for our trips so trying to plan our food budget is tricky. I have a feeling this won’t be a trip to cut corners on with the budget...

The reason was given in the message to you.
No board is rumor free, and no one said this one was. Your concerns are valid, but you are jumping to conclusions by misinterpreting my posts. If you want this thread to be about sharing excitement about SWGE, that's great! We already have an ongoing thread about opening day (Official Superthread: SWGE Opening May 31st) if you want to discuss strategies there. Good contributions there are appreciated. Making this thread to discuss people's excitement and anticipation separately was a good idea so that the two ideas could be more freely expressed here and not get lost in the other thread.
As for TS reservations, it certainly won't hurt to have them. They're going to go quickly once the 60 day window opens! Mobile Ordering should help, too, if the system can keep up with the crowds.

Did you mean the opening day thread? The one you linked is to the podcast? Yes, I've been posting there!

I'm thinking the same, we're just going to over budget for food and go with convenience over all else. Dining packages, Dessert Party, etc. Especially since we have a group of first timers with us and their kids have never been. I want to make sure that even though our focus is SWGE- they get to see Fantasmic! and WOC.

I read during one of the press previews (that link I shared on that thread has the full information) that Savi's Lightsabers will be a small shop with only 14 people allowed in at a time. I'm dying to know if they're going to do a reservation system for that. One of the reporters that was invited to the event said it sounded likely. It does sound pretty similar to Ollivander's- perhaps it will be a queue up first thing in the AM scenario? The experience is meant to be 15 minutes long. That's at the top of our group list. They already sell lightsabers in Tomorrowland so I'm expecting these to be much higher end.

No one’s discouraging you from talking about SWGE. Your OP is all about strategy - potential park closures, using your MM to stand in line, “preparing” your 1st visit friends... that’s stuff that people are (rightly) pointing out that we have zero info about. There are already several threads to speculate that kind of stuff on.

That’s not the same as “I’m so excited about this land; let’s talk about droids and lightsabers.” If that’s what you want to do, that’d be cool, but that’s not how your title/OP reads.

I'm so sorry, I seem to have done something wrong here... Am I not allowed to also discuss strategy with fan excitement?

I'm not being argumentative- I'm just confused! I didn't realize they had to be on separate threads- the thread on opening day right now is all about the reservation system and since we will be visiting after that date I just wanted to brainstorm with other folks in a similar boat. Again, I apologize.

I’m imagining that it will be almost exactly like Ollivander’s, but I’d guess they’d work with a standard queue rather than reservations - given that they aren’t even FP-ing the rides, which I imagine is largely due to “I have a FP, now let me in!” capacity concerns - same thing would happen with any kind of reservation for something inside the land.

You haven't done anything wrong, but if it's all right with you, I'm going to make a small adjustment to your thread title so that people know they can come here to discuss the SWGE fun stuff. :) It will just help to clarify things so this thread won't get lost in the mix.

Feel free to ask away in the other thread and bring the topic back to the issues of visiting on opening day. You can't be the only one wondering about that! I'm sure other posters are wondering about the exact same thing!

I still haven't decided on what type of droid I'll inevitably buy (maybe I'll end up with one of each :rotfl2:).

I'm also hoping the lightsabers will be much higher end than what they have in Tomorrowland (eg. not the cheap $30 plastic ones)! If it is a capacity limited experience then the line could be just as long as MF itself!

I saw an article that quoted them as being around $150, but I can’t find the article now! It was from someone who’d been to the previews, though, and seemed fairly authoritative.

ETA: not sure why my quote didn’t work, but this was a reply to @Gaugersaurus

I remember that article, too -- was it the one from Gizmodo?
And something is askew with the boards today -- quotes aren't working right -- either not showing up at all or the wrong quotes being pasted in. Weird!
