Sweet Wines

I was not a wine drinker at all until I tried Moscato, a white wine. I think it's a dessert wine, but I drink it with my meal. ;)

Coppo Moncalvina Moscato d'Asti

It is a slightly sweet, sparkling white. Soooooo delicious!

I've found sweet wines are mostly white, like rieslings and ice wine/Eiswein. Sangrias (both red and white) can be sweet depending on what you put in them.

I am a big drinker of sweeter wines, mostly white, althought I have found that all rieslings are not sweet, some are way too dry for my taste.

I do not drink much red - although recently we tried a chilean red called "jam jar" that is sweet for a red

My current favorites are:
Dr Loosen Riesling
Chateau Ste Michelle Riesling
Polka Dot Riesling
Pacific Rim Sweet Riesling (They have 2 rieslings, one is sweet and one is dry, I prefer the sweet)

Target has a boxed white sangria that is really good.

One of the things I love about living in Germany is that they make amazing sweet, white wines.

Rieslings and spateleses are excellent.

Eiswein if you want something ultra sweet (almost syrup)--but that is usually too much for me.

I don't know if Uwe Spies imports to the US or not, but they make the best IMO

For reds, I like Lillets from France.

A nice light, sweet wine is Moscato over ice. :thumbsup2 Barefoot cellars has a very tasty Moscato.

Agree I like sweet white German wines another would be liebfraumilch...

I'll agree with PPs who have said that Rieslings will be one of your sweetest, but also add that (though classically a dessert wine) I really enjoy a nice Tawny Port. Of course, as a fortified wine, it's best to pour gently.

The wines from San Sebastian in St Augustine or Lakeridge in Clermont are all very good wines. Most of them are on the sweet side. I don't usually like reds because they are too dry for me but I love their reds. Lakeridge call is Southern Red, San Sebastian calls it Vintners red.

I agree with the PPs about a reisling or ice wine. One wine I love right now is called Sweet Bliss. They have several kinds, a red, white and pink. I love the pink...it is so good in the hot summer evenings. I've found it in several of my local package stores, and here online: http://www.wineanthology.com/p-4522-sweet-bliss-pink-wine.aspx.

Nice and inexpensive, too. :thumbsup2

This is my favorite wine and its available anywhere. There is a small winery in Nevada City, CA called Indian Springs, they make an amazing Moscato
Barefoot also has a sparkling Moscato that is yummy.

Another in the sweet category but not quite as sweet as moscato is
Gewurtztraminer - I really like Nevada City Wineries Gewurtztraminer

white- reisling-late harvest or spatlese

moscato- ruinite d'oro is an inexpensive light sweet white as is Canei if they make it anymore!

lambrusco is a bubbly sweeter red.

I see you are from NC. Have you tried any of the Duplin Winery wines? I don't normally like wine but their wines are great. I think favorites are Carolina Red or Hatteras Red. As far as the Moscato, there is a favorite in our area but I will have to remember the name.

I second Dr. Loosen Riesling!

I love, love, love Duplin wines! I'm from SC, so I stock up when I go there. I can't find it here in Florida. I have sent it mail-order to the in-laws in NY, who also loved it.
It reminds me of the homemade Muscadine wines that used to be much easier to find, always made by someone out in the country from their own grapes. Muscadine grapes are native to the southeastern US. Yummmm!

Yep, Gewurtramiers are also very good, and generally not quite as sweet as some of the others.

Anyone else thirsty now? :rotfl:

Lakeridge & San Sebastian use muscadine grapes. ABC liquors & Publix carry their wine but the best deal is at the winery. Several times a year they offer buy one case get one free. That's when I stock up.

Oh, thank you!! I'm headed to Publix this afternoon, too. So if I appear tipsy around the Dis this evening, it's all in the name of research. :rotfl:
