Sweet 16 celebrated with Mickey & Pals-9 days of TiW dining: Completed 6/14

Great review of the CG, and your seats looked amazing. We sat in the wine room when we dined there, and would have loved a MK view.

A lovely dinner at Cali Grill. I am impressed that you managed the three courses (well, sort of). I never can manage 3 and usually forego an appetiser because I love dessert so much.

Yeah...I wasn't feeling too good after dinner since I had definitely had a food baby! :faint:

Firstly thanks so much for all the wonderful pictures of Karamel Kuche, I was literally browsing the display cabinets saying "ooh, shall I have one of those or one of those?" :rotfl:

I actually would have gone for the salted caramel as well :thumbsup2

Looks like you had a wonderful dinner at CG, I love the photos of you and DD, you both look very glam :goodvibes

Looking forward to reading more

Thanks Linda! The only problem with trying Karamell Kuche is that I will now want to go back and try other items... like I need that!

Thank you for the compliment about our "glam" look. :goodvibes

What a lovely meal to enjoy with your daughter - love the pics of you both all dressed up for the meal.

Why thank you! This is one of our favorite dinners at WDW so we make it a special occassion each time.

You and your DD looked so lovely!!:goodvibes Glad you enjoyed your evening at CG. As for the sleeping child and the request for another hot meal, well.....:sad2:.

Thanks! The waiter was so patient and really tried to accommodate them.

That is where we were seated last time. It is a really lovely and intimate feeling room. It feels rather isolated. I do have to say that the MK view was a real treat. I don't expect that next time I will have such luck but heck, I am just glad to be going back.

BTW: I just found your PTR and I'm interested to read about your Sanaa and Boma dinner review when you return. I've toyed with the idea of Sanaa at least for future trips..... I really want to try something different.

Thanks for reading along Lori. :goodvibes

Quick note: The Wave update to follow tomorrow (today?? it is midnight CA time.)....We spent a few hours at D-land tonight so I'm pooped and will pick this back up tomorrow. popcorn::

I had left Em to sleep in this morning and walked over to MK to watch the park open and take a good morning walk. We had a 9am ADR at The Wave so I had plenty of time to even get in a little shopping.

This was the second time that we had eaten breakfast at The Wave. We checked in and they gave us a pager and told us it would be about a 10 minute wait. We hadn’t taken 3 steps away from the podium before the pager went off! Really, I’m not complaining about being seated immediately, but where do they get their wait time estimates??

We were seated and provided menus. There was no mention of the buffet so I asked our server. She said that it was $19.99 per person. I went into the back room where they have the buffet set up and perused the selections. I honestly wasn’t hungry enough to pay for the buffet when I just wanted some oatmeal.

Buttet choices:

Em decided to pass on the buffet as well. We ordered off the menu and were once again underwhelmed by the food. We had to keep in mind that this restaurant caters to the convention crowd more than families. It just lacked the extra magic of most other Disney dining establishments.

Awaiting our food and my camera was out....

I ordered the aforementioned oatmeal and threw in a side order of a bagel. Em ordered the multi-grain waffle with fruit compote and chose chicken sausage for her breakfast meat option.

I think Em’s disappointed face tells what she thought of this meal. The food was just blah! This time instead of serving two mini bagels with cream cheese on the side they gave me one. Not that I really needed two but hey I was comparing it to last time.

We may be skipping this place next time since it really doesn’t deliver anything special for us. For my $10 breakfast I could have gotten something so much better even at the Contempo Café!

The bill was $29.35 which included a $5.69 TiW discount.

Next Up: Flame Tree BBQ

I'm sorry the Wave was disappointing! I loved my breakfast there, but I opted for the buffet. The a la carte menu is a lot more appealing at other restaurants, (Kona, Kouzzina,) then it is there though.

Shame about breakfast at The Wave. I'm all for healthy options but those multi-grain waffles just look downright unappealing.

Such a shame about the wave breakfast - I have read so many mixed reviews! looking forward to Flame Tree review

Too bad about the wave, we have never been there. I am excited to review Sanaa as well, we love Indian food.

I'm sorry you didnt enjoy your breakfast at The Wave. We had a fantastic breakfast there in Oct but we both had the buffet and the food was hot and fresh and excellent. The eggs benny and the sweet potato pancakes were to so good!

Our second time at CG we had a perfect table by the window, from which we watched the fireworks. it was a magical evening. Glad you were so lucky also. I keep telling DBF we can't go back there because it won't ever be so magical again!

Sorry to hear about your breakfast at The Wave. Hopefully you had many more wonderful meals to make up for it!

Really loving your reviews!

We are eating at quite a few of the same places in July/August - Kona Cafe looks great for breakfast - it will be the first time we've had breakfast there and I'm very much liking the look of the macadamia nut pancakes!

Can't wait to read more!:surfweb:

I was hoping your experience at The Wave would be better than ours this past February. We opted for the buffet and it was awful. The eggs benedict were as hard as hockey pucks as were all of the pastries. Everything that should have been hot was cold, nothing was good. Sorry your experience wasn't any better.:(

You are probably right... I should order the buffet and then make up my mind. I gave Captain's Grill a second chance and it redeemed itself (sneak preview there!)

Shame about breakfast at The Wave. I'm all for healthy options but those multi-grain waffles just look downright unappealing.

The waffles were kinda soggy so the texture wasn't great. Maybe they had been sitting around before they threw them on the plate... not sure.

Why thanks! Stand by....

Too bad about the wave, we have never been there. I am excited to review Sanaa as well, we love Indian food.

I'm going to be looking for your review regarding Sanaa! :thumbsup2

As noted above.... I need to give the buffet a chance. It is silly of me to order the same blah thing a second time and then declare that I don't like the entire restaurant! :confused3 If our travel plans don't change (again), I have another ADR for The Wave in August and will definitely try the buffet.

I figure if you go back enough times you are bound to get a lovely MK window seat. :goodvibes

Definitely!! There were many more good meals than bad. Plus they were still so much better than my typical diet of oatmeal packets and Weight Watcher frozen entrees!

Really loving your reviews!

There are so many yummy options at Kona. :stir: You may be one of the Tonga Toast fans... or get the Big Kahuna which is a little of everything except the Tonga Toast.

Oh no!!! There goes my theory that I need to try the buffet option so that I give it another chance. We'll have to see.... hmmm.

This was our AK day and it was pretty crowded. We had already decided that we wanted Flame Tree BBQ for lunch since it was so yummy last time. After making our way to FT BBQ we found a long, long, very long line with people queued up to place their lunch orders. There were Cast Members directing the guests at the queue – I’ve never seen it that crowded before.

DSC08294.jpg

We ordered our favorites, pork sandwich for me and the ½ slab of St. Louis ribs for Em. Once we had our tray of food the dilemma was where to sit to eat since the seating area was crowded. We just kept walking and walking and finally found plenty of seating by the little lake that is in Asia with a view of Expedition Everest. They had a stand with all the utensils, napkins, BBQ sauces and other necessities so that we didn’t have to walk all the way back to the front.

Seating area:

Food:

The pork sandwich is served with coleslaw while the ribs are served with both coleslaw and baked beans. Thank goodness Em is not a fan of coleslaw since she gave hers to me because I love their version that is not too sweet. I ate most of her baked beans as well, what can I say – they were good too! I loved my sandwich that I dressed with extra BBQ sauce – the sweet version with the pepper flakes.

Close up of food:

Em left there saying that she’s not such a fan of BBQ (gasp!) and I left there wanting to eat lunch there again very soon. We were able to use our TiW card - $4.51 discount for a total of $19.23 which included two drinks.

Up Next: Hollywood Brown Derby

That pulled pork sandwich looks great - and, are my eyes deceiving me, is that white bun that it's on (not that yucky, sawdusty wholegrain bun that they have started using for burgers)?

Was there BBQ sauce already on the sandwich? If there is, it doesn't look like there is too much (I am not the biggest fan of sauces so would love if you were able to add enough sauce to suit).

Either way, the food looks great :thumbsup2

Yummy! ::yes::

We haven't been to Flame tree for a while now - but I think it's definitely time for another visit! I wanted to lick the screen!

The ribs and the sandwich both looked delicious - I am not a huge fan of BBQ flavour - but I might have to make an exception!:rotfl:

Can't wait for more!

I am going to miss eating at Flametree this next trip, that sandwich is a favorite of mine and the view is one of the best on property.

You know... I don't recall if the bun was the nasty wheat or white. Whatever it was I must have liked it because I don't recall anything tasting like a sawdust sponge. As for the sauce - the sandwich comes nekkid! You add the BBQ sauce yourself. I must have controlled my sauce obsession because it wasn't overflowing and puddling on the plate.

Yummy! ::yes::

I think there are more fans of FT BBQ compared to most other restaurants in AK. I've only eaten at Pizzafari and FT so I don't have a lot to compare. However.. anyday, I will go back to FT - it is THAT good! ::yes::

Hang in there... HBD will be posted tomorrow.... I decided to run tonight instead of writing my review. :rolleyes1

Yeah but you have some other wonderful places to look forward to eating at! :yay:

Cali Grill pork looks lovely, but The Wave looked a bit boring. We've just had a morroccon pulled pork sandwich for dinner, so now that just leaves me needing something with caramel, chocolate and peanut butter. Roll on August when I can visit Caramel Kuche (sp?)
