Swearing in Disney

Since the average WDW visit involves a mix of cultures, how exactly would you attempt to change everyone? If a curse or swear word is going to ruin your vacation, the bubble around you needs to burst. Society evolves and the reality is that many words that were considered curses or swears are now everyday common words. I don't want to live in a society where every word has to be metered or else the "language police" will want to arrest me. Too many real issues in the world. If hearing someone curse is your worst problem, consider yourself very lucky!

Exactly. There are far far worse things going on in the world than having to hear the occasional swear word.

There are far better things too.....

Is it really that hard for people to control their mouth while other people, especially kids, are around.....????

Out of habbit.
And because I had an accident at Disney that hurt A LOT. I used a lot of choice words. Maybe that's why they were in a hurry to get me in the ambulance and to the ER?

A few years ago, DS and I were in the toy department at Target. There was a guy in the next row speaking loudly on his phone. Every other word out of his mouth was the F word. We went around the corner and I politely said, "Excuse me, but you do realize you are in the toy department, right?" He apologized and walked off. We saw him 5 minutes later still going at it on the phone in the sporting goods department. :rotfl2:

Some people either have no self control or they just don't care enough about people around them to watch what they say. There are "no profanity" rules in all sports arenas, but trust me when I say that my kids have heard it all, and they know what words are not to be repeated. They used to think the "s word" was "stupid", but they know what it really is now. :rotfl:

What's offensive to you may not be to me. Some people think pissed is a swear word. Some don't. So how do you keep everyone from not being offended? If someone stubs their toe and drops a swear word is that a big issue if they don't swear any other time?
Or are you more concerned about people who are constantly swearing (every other word) without considering others around them? If that's the case, I've rarely heard people like that at Disney.
I've seen and heard far worse things at Disney. People not showering or wearing deodorant (horrible BO), people who blatantly cut in line in front of others, parents who scream at their children, parents who hit their children, people who run into someone else and doesn't say excuse me or apologize, etc.

I'll just say I got a couple of warnings for my language in posts in the thread. And the offending posts have been removed as with others. Mine didn't actually use any particular words but hinted at them. I think the board filtering software actually bleeps out the real stuff and it takes a person for anything more surreptitious.

So I'll just say anything that would be filtered out here just plain would not be appropriate at a family park.

Dick Van Dyke name gets filtered out here on the boards. I can't imagine mentioning "Bert"'s name in a Disney park is that bad ;)

Looks like that might have finally changed :)

Yes, that was a case of classic overkill.

Swearing doesn't offend me. I've done it myself, but, there is a time and a place for everything. Constant swearing is a sign of being, as I said, classless and having no self respect. Big deal, you know a dirty word, I am so impressed! We all learned them before middle school. Then we grew up! We thought enough of ourselves to use them when appropriate and use other real grown up words to express ourselves.

Constant swearing in public just makes a person look uneducated. It does serve to draw attention to oneself though and that might be the key reason.

Well it depends on the level if the curse word.
I wouldn't walk around in public saying lets ____ go on _____ Dumbo. I love that ____ride. (Starts with an f)
But I will say, oh, ____ hey hon, did you remember to take the camera? But the curse word is not said more loudly, or used as an emphatic exclamation. I may say shoot 3/4 of the time instead of the other word starting with the same sound, but the times I forget I don't think it's a big deal. I think there's a difference between the two examples.

The whole argument of "what's offensive to one may not be to another so why should we worry about it all" is ridiculous. Some words are clearly foul and should not be spouted off in public. Someone stubbing their toe and slipping out a curse word is one thing, someone walking around in target or wherever and dropping the f bomb repeatedly is what I think bothers most people. It should be common courtesy to not use some words in public and especially in front of kids.

Our society is so backwards. If you leave someone tickets to a christian movie its perceived as rude, pushy, distateful etc etc etc. But feel free to run around dropping the f bomb whenever and wherever you want to, because hey, you don't know what offends people so why care, unless its Christan of course, then feel free to be offended.

My kids probably wouldn't really notice after spending time with my grandmother! :rotfl2: She is 72 and swears like a sailor. Has for years. And we still love her even though we try to correct her. I think she figures she is old, she can do what she wants. :lmao: We just tell our kids that those words are not to be repeated. They know a bad word when they hear it and I have never heard my kids repeat them. I am sure we have heard words at Disney but just flew over our heads! (BTW, my grandmother is a sweetheart and super kind to my kids, you just have to ignore what she says. ;) )

Just checking to see if ****oo (boo-boo) still gets filtered.

ETA - Yep, it does.

I've had a few accidentally slip, just to throw my hands over my mouth and apologize to whoever is around me. Nobody is perfect...sometimes when you are on a roll, you forget where you are. However, I always make a conscious decision to not use any foul language...

Although I don't find hell or damn to be bad words like some do and I will use those if need be.
