Swearing In Disney Movies?

A ******* is a donkey. My guess is that in 1940 it wasn't a derogatory term that it is today.

ETA: Official research: The donkey or ***, Equus africanus asinus, is a domesticated member of the Equidae or horse family. The wild ancestor of the donkey is the African wild ***. A male donkey or *** is called a jack, a female a jenny or jennet. Hence ******* is a male donkey.

Disney has for many years had profanity in their movies. I remember several that came out in the 80's where one of the kids' favorite statements was "Holy ****." Disney is pretty bad about over using pet phrases. For a while, almost every commercial had the phrase, "I heard that!" in them.

Ummm, the movie was made in 1940. That should say a lot. Look at the other cartoons that were inappropriate or pollitically incorrect, such as Bugs Bunny!

Of course it was appropriate. They were talking about children turning into donkeys.

Technically it wasn't swearing seeing how that's what donkeys are, but as far as swearing in other movies, I'm sure some live action ones had swearing.

It's in the bible.

We have a ******* Road near here, about once every few years there is a crash on it, and our traffic reporter has to say ******* on the air.

Tell that to the filters on this board.

*******

*******
*******
*******
*******

See what I mean.

*sigh* Society has made so much progress in so many ways. And yet we let such sensitivities control us. :guilty:

Jack*** is NOT swearing. Someone took offense to it at some point and now it's filtered and "banned". However, as pointed out above - it's just a noun.

Of all the things that disturbed me in early Disney movies, this wasn't one of them. I heard that word, and worse, all the time at home! However, my mother being shot, forest fires, being poisoned by an apple, etc. etc. Those were all new and frightening concepts to me.

And, I know it's not Disney, but that Willy Wonka scared the living life out of me!

Swearing is all in how you use the word. Calling a person a ******* isn't appropriate, but it is completely appropriate to refer to a donkey as such.

Personal anecdote: When I was younger, I used to think that Tramp was referring to Lady as "*****" insetead of "Pidge". I didn't think anything of it, though, because that is the term for a female dog which is exactly what Lady is.:confused3

I never had a problem with that. My beef was always with Tinkerbell. She was a spoiled, jealous, homicidal little witch. I know the new movies have attempted to make her over bur I can't help but laugh when I see little girls dressed as her.

It's "Pidge"?!?! I watched that movie with my kids a few months ago, and I TOTALLY thought Tramp called her *****! :rotfl2: I figured it was a more socially acceptable term when the movie was made, and the kids didn't even seem to notice, so I kind of forgot about it.

A little off topic, but I remember when my mom carried us to see "The Parent Trap " (the original with Haley Mills and yes I guess i am old). There was a scene where Brian Keith picked up and looked at a bra that had been hanging in the bathroom. My mom was disappointed that such a scene would be in a Disney movie!

Why do I sense a TROLL in the room. Oh, well, maybe not. I do hope so, because I would hate to think that our society has advance to the point that an adult would get upset by such trivia, even if their interpretation was correct.

OMG, that's hilarious! That was our favorite movie growing up, and every time that scene came on, my sister and I would look at each other and just giggle!!! Now I laugh at the underlying sophistication in the joke - the fact that Brian Keith is trying to reconcile the bra size with what he thinks is his daughter's. Too funny.
