Hi,
I have swapped my flights with virgin today so we now depart from manchester. I was happy and felt quite relieved that our journey to the airport was now halfed and we had lost the need fro an overnight stay in the hospital.
Then everyone i talk too says ive made a big mistake and that the service from manchester is appalling compared to gatwick.
Can anyone reassure me that its really not that bad??:confused3

We've flown several times from Manchester and can't complain really. Only one unpleasant experience when boarding the plane, when the woman checking the boarding passes was a bit annoying and rather short. Nothing much really.

i think it depends on the flight... my friend just had a terrible experience with them and flew into gatwick in the end after a cancelled flight and then was put on a 7 hour coach journey!

However.. we had a terrible experience with them going into Gatwick.. so its swings and roundabouts...
like all these things its partly luck... the chances are they will be fine..

I have flown from Manch with Virgin about 9 times. Don't remember any delays to talk about going, had a couple coming home. Just used them again at Xmas and could not fault them, I have moaned about ther service getting worse in past few years but Xmas was good again.
Flown with them Once from Gatwick, check in was a nightmare, one long line Xmas Morning for all Virgin flights, took 2 hours to check in, snaking all around the airport, it was mad.
Same planes from both airports, I would opt for Manch without question but we are only 45-50 mins away.

We have only ever flown with them out of Manchester and have never been delayed.
Service has always been good and we have generally been happy with the whole experience.
Whether we have been lucky, or if service out of Manchester is always that good I can't say, but it is always the first flights we check when planning forthcoming trips.

manchester is always our first choice over gatwick we have never had any problems with virgin, on the plus side it is only 80 miles up the m6 and so easy to get to.
Our son is autistic and the service and help we have had from everyone at the airport has been first class .

we prefer Manchester as well, its a much easier drive to the airport :thumbsup2

What is it about the service from Manchester that 'everyone' is saying is appalling? :confused3

This was one of my concerns my son has aspergers and im so worried that we wont get the help we need with him - a simple 2 sec chat at check in will be enough to reassure him that everything will be ok. Same ds has cancer and will need meds on flight Ive heard horror stories about flight crews from manch not letting people do this and been very rude and abrupt - this would be enough to send ds into meltdown for whole flight.

Im sure im just been silly but last time we flew we went from gatwick and all the staff were so nice and went out of their way to talk to ds and ask if he needed to know anything one even gave him the tour of the plane as he had never been on a plane b4 !!
I was also told that the planes were old and unreliable and expect delays *** the best planes were used at gatwick. From the replies ive had its just all a load of tosh and im feeling bit better that we will be fine!!

We also just used Virgin from Manchester - we needed wheelchair assistance, had rung previously and not a problem when we got to check in. We didn't know it but the check in person even assigned us seats going out with extra leg room.

Found both flights to be fine, no delays (early coming back).

Hopefully your flight will be fine too :)
