Hello ladies....I have what may seem to be a silly question.

Why when we do a swap do we have the borders made 11 inches? I was wondering because if we did them 12 inches the girls who use 81/2 by 11 books could just cut them down a little but for those of us who use 12x12 its hard to adapt the 11 inch to fit......can anyone enlighten me on why the magic number 11 was chosen....

like I said I am just curious. :confused3

This size is more universal. Yes you can just down the swap stuff, or pull things off or recreate the items into something else which I have done...
But sometimes you can't cut down the 12 inch title if the person matted it and added embellishments to the edge. Also to have the title fit in the CM books. They are not true 12x12.
So this way what ever size book you use it will fit. I also think when swapping started many moons ago on this site a lot of people were still scrapping in the 81/2 by 11 books.

I understand why we do them 11" but I sure wish there was another option. I've gotten some lovely borders, but I've yet to put one in a book! I use true 12x12 pages & I just don't like the "gaps" you get with the 11" border. :( I keep trying to figure out something else to fill in the space, but haven't found something I like yet.

Is there anyone who has put the 11" borders on a 12x12 page who would share some ideas? TIA!

I have matted them in the past! That can work.

It doesn't bother me that they don't cover my entire page. Even when I make my own titles they are all different sizes depending on what I am scrapping.

I never thought to matting them as they're already matted, but that would work. :) Thanks!

My titles are all different sizes too, but 11" takes the border too close to the edges without actually touching. I just don't like the look of that 1/2" of white sticking out. I'm weird, I know. 3" of white on either side doesn't bother me, but 1/2" does. :sad2: Weird.

You know.....Originally I was working with a CM book....until I realized that the wallpapered pages I was planning/working on would fit onto the CM pages. (I put things too close to the edge to trim them.) That's when I was trying to use the 11" borders, on white pages. Maybe it won't bother me as much if it's on wallpaper. I haven't even looked. DUH!

Deb have you considered trying black or natural pages ? I am working on a Disney album right now and used black refills and I'm loving it. I will post some pictures after my vacation this weekend.

OK - I give up Cyndi. :confused3 How did you adjust the 11" borders? They seem to go edge to edge, but I can't tell if you added something & if so...where?

These are my own borders actually. But when they are premade I just add another mat to them like Spinning said. Also this way I can match up my own cardstock with the swap borders and then mat my photos so that they look consistent. I'm thinking that because you use white refills that the inches missing stand out more, maybe with the different colors it won't bother you as much.

Oh - now I get it. And yes, I do think that wallpaper or the dark pages would be better. I've since given up putting my Disney things in a CM book as I really like the wallpaper. I'm using my CM books for other family photos so I can make my borders the length I want them now.

I was just thinking that if we stated that the borders should be 12 inches with the top/bottom being adjustable to 11inches it would be nice. Just my 2 cents don't want to step on anyones toes.

That sounds like a good idea to me, it would only be a half inch on each side if someone wanted to use it in an 11 inch book and less in a CM book. That sounds like it would appeal to everyone :)
