I booked my vacation through AAA and was told the only room they offered was standard. (same as through disney.com).What exactly is considered standard :confused3 and is there a way to get an upgrade? I joined Starwood shortly after but was told my stay didn't count. :sad2: We will be arriving very early, around 8:30 am. Should I show my card anyway (online copy) and ask politely for an upgrade or would that be too presumptuous? Maybe if I told them we are celebrating DD's 18th birthday :cake: and she really wanted to stay at their resort. (true) My DH said maybe if he wears my tripadvisor.com cap, they just might get the hint?:rotfl2: What do you think?
Thanks for your help

We stayed in a standard room in Nov 07 and was fine. I actually was pleasantly surprised. The pool is fabulous, the housekeeping are very pleasant. The food can be pricey. I walked over to the boardwalk bakery in the morning after my run to buy breakfast items. They can be easily stored in the room refrigerator, which you have to request. Enjoy your DD's birthday.

We have stayed several times at the Swan and the Dolphin, and they are great.
I consider them very accommodating to your requests, and they go out of your way to help you.
By all means show your card and learn the GM's name before you get there and either drop his/her name or speak with them directly.
Each time we have stayed there we have gotten an upgraded view of either MgM or Epocot or in one instance both! (corner room)
I believe you will be pleasantly surprised.
And another little tip I didn't realize until our last trip, take the bottled water in your room! Although it has a tag on it saying its $3.50 a bottle, you have paid for it in the $10. resort tax on your bill. This also includes the wireless internet fee, so take advantage.
Have fun!

Who told you your stay wouldn't count, AAA? I made a ressie with DU for upcoming trip to the Dolphin and forgot to give them my Starwood #. I called (Starwood) 888-625-5144 and they attached my number to the ressie.
AAA gives you a confirmation #, but the hotel also has one. Ask for it so you can log into your reservation on Swan/Dolphin reservations page. I requested king bed, and now I know I got it. :goodvibes
You can also try (on Swan/Dolphin page) under reservations, putting in your last name & credit card # used and possibly view it and you will get the hotels confirmation #.

I was told by a Starwood representative that if I booked through AAA it wasn't a qualifying stay. I think it was because I went through AAA travel not on my own. That being said I found my reservation # on the Swan/Dolphin site through concierge and sweetly requested what I would like. Nothing is garanteed I know, but anything helps. Thanks for your advise.:goodvibes

I'm glad you got to the site and put your requests in. You might not get credit for the stay, but they can at least attach your number to the reservation. That may help get your requests. I still try giving them a call.
