I have a room reserved at the Swan next month. I asked for a balcony but wondering if I should be more soecific. I would love to see the fireworks and look down on Boardwalk. Is that possible? Is higher up better? Should I call or go through online request?

Definitely fax a request the week before you are due to check in. We were just there a couple of weeks ago, and we had a fantastic room! It was room 627, and it had a view of the Boardwalk and Illuminations fireworks. We loved it!! We are SPG gold, and the CM said that they usually save this room for gold or platinum members. I don't know how true that is, though. Also, be sure to reiterate at check-in that you are hoping for the corner king on a high floor. We were able to add club privledges at check-in for 1250 points/night, too.

Is room 627 a king? I need 2 queens as my son is staying with me also. That view is exactly what I want. I just joined the SPG. I have a # but no points yet. Do you think that will make any difference?

627 is a king room, but there was a fairly large pull-out couch in the room as well. The room looked like it could sleep 4 comfortably.

I think that being SPG gold or platinum makes a big difference. You can sign up for the Starwood AMEX and then call SPG to get automatically upgraded to gold when your card arrives. That's what we did...it took less than 2 weeks to get the AMEX, and then we called to upgrade the SPG card to gold the day that the AMEX card arrived. You can then go online and print off your new SPG gold card. Worked like a charm for us!!

Be sure to specify WHICH view you want, i.e. EPCOT view, East side of hotel. We asked for park view to watch fireworks, and got a not-so-great "view" of MGM and the west side of Crescent Lake. Since there was little to look at, we really didn't use the balcony at all.

The Swan is great, however. The boats to EPCOT and MGM were a nice feature, though on the EE day at MGM, the first two boats arrived full, and didn't take any S/D people, so we ended up walking and getting there when the park opened to the public. Boo.

yes it does if you're up high enough to see over the buildings
