Hello All, I have truly grown to love thes boards,I have retained so much useful information over the past few years its amazing...everyone is so darn helpful....any how my question is: I have plans to visit WDW at the end of this month Jan.30th thru Feb 5th...(I will be going with my son and my 2 wonderful Grandchildren, attending The Pirates/Princess party on Feb 1st, we had planned to stay at The Polynesian(my new favorite) but my son is a Sgt in the Police force in NY, he told me he can book The Swan for 189.00 a night with the Govt. employee rate.....Although I love the Poly I must say I love that rate (especially since he always pays for everything)..I have been doing some research on The Swan/Dolphin and I believe it looks pretty darn good to me....does anyone think I will be disapointed after my stays at GF/Poly.....I already told my son that I would love to stay thier....thanks so much

I have never stayed at the Poly or the GF, but I have stayed at the Contemporary once and the Dolphin 6 times. I highly recommend the Dolphin - it has undergone extensive renovation over the past couple of years, and is virtually brand new - rooms and public areas. The resort is beautiful, the service is excellent and I like the Boardwalk location better than the MK location because of all there is to do/see within walking distance of the hotel (ESPN, surrey bikes, boardwalk entertainers, shops, etc.). And, for $189, you just won't do any better - that has to be at least 50% less, if not half, of the Poly rate.

I have heard some say that the Dolphin isn't "Disney" enough. I disagree completely - unless charging to your room key at the parks and getting Mickey soap is a make or break thing for you, I don't think you will notice any other diferrences. In fact, I have found the service to be on average better than the service I have received at Disney-owned resorts. A few other great things: Heavenly beds (they really are the best hotel beds I've ever slept in), lightning fast elevators, and high quality, reasonably priced meals at Picabu (formerly Tubbi's).

I've stayed at the Polynesian and I prefer the Swan/Dolphin over the Poly.

We are Epcot lovers and the S/D are so close you can walk!

The decor is completely different. The Poly is done in dark shades, lots of brown, etc. It almost has a masculine feel to it.

The S/D is done in pastels; teal, peach, pink, etc. It's brighter and more uplifting IMHO.

Go and enjoy the great rate! Let us know what you think! Have a great trip!

Thanks so much, I will enjoy it Im sure...I dont think I will be bothered by the lack of "Disney feel" so much, since the hotels are in the middle of everything, just to look out my window and see MGM/EPCOT/YC/BC/BOARWALK area will more than enough to remind me....thanks again

We stay at both since my dh works for the govt. here in NY. We also love the great govt. rates at the Swan. If you party size is 4 you can stay at the Swan, if it is 5 than you can only stay at the Dolphin. You will love the location and please have your ds bring his govt. id. They asked to see dh in december.

We stayed at the Swan on the teacher rate and loved it. I think everyone should stay somewhere in the Epcot resort area just once -- walking distance to World Showcase, a walk or boat ride to MGM -- talking walks around the area and visiting all the resorts... it's fabulous!

To voice the "other" opinion, we were not fans of the Swan - we thought the room was particularly cramped and the walls were quite thin. Also, my wife is very critical when it comes to cleanliness and it did not pass her standards (I didn't have much of a problem with that issue though). But I will say you cannot beat the location. Good luck.

Also, how do you get to MGM from THE SWAN I know you can walk, but I dont remember how long it is.....Thanks again

Yes, you can walk. It's about a 15-20 depending on your speed. I walked it in 7 minutes from the BWV.

I've stayed at both the Poly and the Swan and I think you will be happy at the Swan. Both are very nice.

Enjoy!

We've never walked it because it's a straight shot over to MGM from the S/D, no stopping along the way. When you go to Epcot, the boat makes the stop at the Boardwalk and the Yacht & Beach Clubs. With MGM, it's straight over and the first stop on the way back!
