We currently have reservations for the swan 3/10 through 3/15 at a great rate. For about $200 more (total) we can stay at AKL. I will be travelling with my husband and 2 children ages 2 and 6 and another family with children ages 3 and 5. We have stayed at the dolphin before and we loved the proximity to everything and the ease of transportation from this resort. We were looking forward to trying out the swan this time but, we have heard great things about AKL and with the discounted rates it makes it very enticing to switch. My question is how do the two resorts compare and how is transportation for AKL? Has anyone stayed at both resorts and can make a reccommendation? Thanks for your assistance. :D

We have stayed at the Dolphin and AKL. We loved both resorts. We always have a car so I can't answer the bus question. We did ride the boat from the Dolphin to MGM. AKL just can't be beat with small kids though! My kids were 1,4,6 when we went last May. It is fabulous! There were so many activities we spent a day at the resort which we haven't done before. You will like either choice.

Sorry, I haven't stayed at Dolphin but I just had to comment on AKL. As the other poster stated, you just can't beat AKL with kids. Mine were 13, 11, and 4 when we stayed there last year. What fun it was to wake up every morning to see what new animals were below our balcony, or to be able to walk down to the hot tub and look out and see all kinds of animals. We also enjoyed the African storyteller in the afternoons, or sitting on the overlooks in the large rocking chairs, relaxing and watching the animals. AKL is further out than Dolphin but the bus service was great and we never had to wait long at all. It was just an amazing experience that my family will never forget. HTH and good luck with your decision. :D

We have stayed at both with 3 ds. At the akl we did have a bad experience and we wont go back there but I do think you would definetely enjoy it. Its more geared to kids and the animal views are great. There werent alot of kids activities when we were there but I see that has improved alot. The gift shop is great and so is the lobby, pool, on site child care and ease of snacks and mug refills. The bus was a long ride but think of it, that bus is usually dedicated just to the akl, so alot of times there were very few of us on the bus for mid day breaks etc. Our biggest problem at the akl was that we paid for a deluxe savannah view and our room was high up and we hardly ever saw any animals except when the feed truck came as a bribe for them and we usually saw animal butts, that was it, very disappointing when you bring binoculars, disposable cameras for each kid etc. Get a room on the lobby level. I saw that is where all the rooms were ooohhing and aahing each day, making our ds very disappointed.

Now for the swan, we stayed there is august. There is absolutely no disney theming in the place. Our teens didnt mind it, but little kids sure would I bet. It is definetely geared toward adults. Our ds loved the pool and sandy beach. I have commented that I did notice the lifeguard was not very attentive and was glad my guys are strong swimmers. No kids activities that were supervised but lots of play options, playground, beach volleyball, water slide etc. Also our biggest pain was the lack of a close snack and drink refil place. I made gatorade in the room alot. After a long day in the parks you dont want to hike over to the dolphin for a snack. But their transportation was definetely a plus to us as was the pool and also had access to watercraft rental etc.

With your kids being that little I would probably pick the akl if you are spending alot of time in the resorts. Good luck deciding. Also any dining option at the swan was a little overpriced in my opinion. We did get airline miles so that helped.

Thanks for the advice. After reading your reponses, we have chosen to go with AKL. We have requested a savannah view (on the second, third or fourth floor) room with a queen bed and bunk beds. Hopefully all will work well. Because of the kids ages we agreed with all of you that the theming at AKL would probably be enjoyed more by the kids. We are looking forward to our trip but will miss trying the new heavenly beds at the swan. We will get a chance to stay at the swan again in August when my husband attends a convention there. Thanks again for all of your assistance.
