This time of year by me is big apple picking season. We have an apple orchard about 45 minutes away from me that is crazy busy right now. When my kids were in daycare, we’d go on a field trip there every year. They also sell incredible homemade apple donuts that are amazing - you can watch those get made. They also make caramel apples with lots of fun toppings - you can watch them make those too. It’s a fun place. We haven’t been in a few years and I’m thinking I’d like to go this year. This got me thinking….have any of you gone fruit picking :scratchin. Give us your fruity good answer today……

Have you ever gone fruit picking?
if yes….what fruits have you picked?
(multiple choice)

For Me……The only fruit picking I’ve ever done is apple picking. I’d love to go strawberry picking and blueberry picking - I think that would be fun. The only reason why I don’t pursue it is because I don’t do any pie making, jelly/jam making, canning and all the things many people do after they pick fruit.

We went “picking” at a commercial apple orchard as a family activity with DH’s daughter and the grandkids a few years ago. Also have spent many, many hours harvesting our own berries (strawberries, raspberries and saskatoons) over the years; I grew up on a farm and that fruit was an important part of our winter provisions. :goodvibes

We used to pick blue berries and strawberries. And our Granny used to have an apple orchard so we always had apples!

I've picked apples, blueberries, raspberries and strawberries. I've picked the berries on vacation in Wisconsin and Michigan. And the apples grow all over the area. :)

There is an apple orchard that we would go to annually for apples, apple donuts and fresh squeezed apple cider. It was all delicious. :)

Yes, I've been picking- apples, berries. I am not a huge fan. I find it expensive and boring, and the bees are an issue. However, if DD/SIL plan it as a family activity with the LittleGuy, I'll go.

Apples and peaches - and then came to canning - made apple butter and I’ve made peach butter and it’s fun but it’s a lot of work it’s like going in the forest to get a Christmas tree end up getting the biggest Christmas tree that doesn’t fit inside the house you go and get apples and the next thing you know you got way too many apples way too many peaches next thing you know you’re making tons of apple butter or you’re making tons of peach butter you’re making apple pie you’re making apple crisp you’re making peach crisp peach pie it just gets so out of hand because it’s just so delicious we did it for years when our kids were little because they still like to go into the orchards and doing it I haven’t done in years and I have no intentions of starting it again there’s some quaint little shops by me that make it and it’s not that bad it taste pretty good I let them do all the work and I’ll just buy it from them 🤣🤣🤣

We used to go apple picking every year when the kids were little. Now, however, I don’t know how families even afford it. A bag of apples here in MA is about $40 which is insane to me. I now just buy a large bag from Costco of their Cosmic Crisp apples and call it a day.

We used to go blueberry and strawberry picking, but it has been many years, and not in this state. And pumpkins in Oct.
It is too hot here. But in spring DD takes the grand kids peach picking. She has a peach orchard about a mile from her house.

When the kids were young, we went cherry picking one time. On our way home from the Pennellwood Resort in Michigan, we stopped at a farm that had picking. Not sure if it was just cherries there, but that's what we picked. I recall Natalie and Vince having a fun time. Fun memory.

I don't know, I've always thought of fruit picking as a job! 🤣 It's not one I would really want to do either - it's hard work! Now, I might stop at the orchard and buy some fresh apples and some of the many treats they make with them, but someone else can handle the picking.

It's been a while since we've done any kind of picking. I used to pick blueberries and blackberries as a kid. We'd also sometimes hit the apple orchards. It's been ages, but this pic of my girls strawberry picking is the last time we picked fruit. For reference, these kids are now 19 and and almost 17. Time flies!

Side note- If you ever visit Capitol Reef National Park, they have orchards where you can pick fruit. We didn't have enough time, but it's something to try if we go back.

*I also recently reaped the benefits of someone else's picking. I was up in Missoula, MT and visited the Big Sky Brewing Co.'s taproom. They had a special version of Moose Drool on tap that was made with a local patron's recent raspberry picking haul.

I have an apple tree in my backyard and I might pick a few apples from it each year. But I honestly don't take care of it and it really needs to be removed. When PGE came by and said they were going to have to trim/remove a tree in my backyard I was hoping this was the one. Turns out the tree was actually in the neighbors yard not mine.

Went apple picking once, it was about 20 miles away but took over an hour with traffic. Went yo ShopRite the next year with the kids, way better. We have a large raspberry bush and a huge fig tree, so pick our own. Made 3 batches of fig jam already.

We've gone apple picking a few times in recent years. And strawberry picking once or twice. As a kid, we would go with my mom strawberry picking and she would make jam from it - enough to fill the freezer for the whole year.

My grandmother used to have a red raspberry bush in her backyard when we were little. But it stopped producing fruit at some point.
