Swan- know upgraded before trip?

Just curious, have most of you preferred guests traveling to the swan who received room upgrades known before they got there that they would be getting the upgrade or were you suprised at check in with the good news?

we have a starwood preferred plus card and called and they said
IF available at check in we would be upgraded, just to show our
card...

so no, we wont know wether we get upgraded or not, it is
based on availability, so not sure they could tell you early.

Stayed at Dolphin in Feb. Upgraded from standard room to deluxe with balcony and resort view (I think it was called) This upgrade appeared on my reservation on the spg site some weeks before trip. We have recently become platinum card holders not sure if that makes a difference!
