I'll be staying at the Swan next week for 3 nights.(Wed the 13th, checking out on Sat the 16th) .
I have a standard view room booked but I am SPG gold (through AAA but only have about 775 points).
A couple of questions for the experts here:

1. If space is available, I understand I get an automatic upgrade. What would that upgrade be? Resort View? Parks View? Balcony?

2. On my reservation info at the SPG site, it has a place to enter special request. What do I request based on my standard room reservation? Ideally, I'd like a high floor with some sort of view and a balcony. What are the available views?

3. Are there wings of the hotel that have better views than others?

4. I had a really hard time getting this reservation. Anyone know what is going on at Disney (other than F & W)? Convention maybe? I DO know that Gartner is having their big conference beginning the 16th or 17th.

Thanks for any help!!

1. If the hotel is really busy, you will probably be upgraded to a resort view. We've been upgraded to that view twice as spg members and the views are very nice. The balconies are very small, so didn't seem worth the extra money to me. Some people do luck into upgrades of Club Level or suites, but it really seems like the luck of the draw.

2. The Swan/Dolphin experts can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe it's more effective to do special requests through the swandolphin.com website. You go to reservations and special requests and send an e-mail to them. Include your spg number and your request will show up on the spg websit.

3. I don't think it's so much the wings of hotel that matter, but which side of the hall your room is on. We were on the East Wing of both the Swan and the Dolphin and did not have a view of Epcot, but the rooms across the hall from us did. We did have very nice rooms though. In one it was of Tower of Terror and in the other it was the Boardwalk and Beach Club. From both we could see the Crescent Lake.

4. There is probably a convention, or two, going on. Swan and Dolphin are convention hotels, but the activities are usually out of the way and it has never deterred from my stay there.
