I have stayed at the Swan a number of times in the past few years and the Dolphin once. I have always enjoyed my stays there immensely. Seemed about the only thing that ever 'irked' me was the allowance of smoking in the common areas..lobby, bell area, hallways, and the like. I think it was due to the fact that these two resorts cater a bit more to the conventions and also a higher than average overseas guest population, as they do smoke more than Americans do.

I had read somewhere about the rather new clean air law implemented in Florida and was hoping it applied to the S/D also. I sent guest relations an email asking if it did and received a nice reply saying it did, no more smoking allowed in any common area of the resort, just like the other WDW resorts have been for some time. I'm a happy camper. :bounce: Just thought I would pass this on if any here were not aware of it. (hard to believe that, you guys know everything about the resorts here. :teeth: )

PS: Not sure if this has been posted before here on the resort board. I did a quick skim and search and did not see any mention of it jump out at me.

Thanks Dan! I'm very happy to hear about the clean air bill. I love S/D but did not care for the smoking either. Are you staying at the S/D for your next trip?

Well howdy there Dan! :wave2: Haven't seen you over here on the Resorts Board for a while!

Thanks for checking and posting, Dan! I remembered you had mentioned the smoke issue before and when I heard about that new law I wondered if maybe it would be resolved. Glad it is! :D
Cant wait to try out the Swan!

Woo Hoo! My in-laws are staying at the Dolphin next week and I was worried because of FIL's asthma. This is good news!

Hi Dan ! I remember you from DIS-con last year !

This is really good news ! I will be at The Swan Dec 5th, 6th, and 7th. I move to the Boardwalk villas for the 8th, 9th, and 10th. I have to go home on the 11th. Boo Hoo

Does this also mean that there will be no smoking at the night club in The Swan ?

The karaoke won't be totally smoke filled like last year ??

The Clean Air Act allows smoking in free standing "bars" that have alcohol as their primary source of venue. Some food items are allowed to be served, but smoking is not allowed in any place designated as a restaurant. So, if the karaoke area is more a restaurant than a bar, smoking should not be allowed.

I walked through the Swan just this past weekend and no one was smoking in the common areas. However, it still smells of old tobacco. I imagine it will take some time for that to dissipate completely.

Woo hoo! Thank you thank you thank you, Dan, for posting this great news. We love the Dolphin, but the smoking was a real pain (DH has asthma that is triggered by cigarette smoke). Now we'll be able to enjoy our visit to the Dolphin in June even more!

LOL, Blondie, I should stop by more often, such good info here on this board.

And yes, Muffy, I will be at Swan, 11/30-12/10.

Claudia, I think item #4 of 'where' permitted would make it not permitted at Kimono's. And as DVC~OKW~96 said, about the food business, item #2 would also keep it non-smoking. I am happy!!!! Glad this was helpful.

4. Not located within, and not sharing any common entryway or common indoor area with, any other enclosed workplace, such as a hallway, concourse or lobby

2. No more than 10 percent of gross revenues may be derived from the sale of food consumed on the licensed premises
