Where do you go to get on the swamp trail and can you all please post some pictures. Thanks. :cutie:

Don't know about the swamp trail, but welcome!!!!:flower3:

:welcome: to the board. If it's the trail we were on for a bit last year..I think we picked that up in the 300 loop. I'm sure there will be someone along shortly who can tell you for sure.;)

Is that the one that is closed down? I think we went on that 2 years ago but they had never completely cleared it from the hurricane before then. There were trees across the small bridge area and it was getting dark at the time. As wild and so far away from everything as it was I was getting a little concerned about snakes or alligators. Looked pretty remote being unused as it was. The trail can be picked up down along the lake across the dam bridge and just keep on going. Has this been opened back up again yet?

If you look at the map that has been stickied, or at this link:

The Swamp Trail is located at the top near the FW Logo. That area has always been closed to guests every time I checked recently. The walkway is all there, but the boardwalks are heavily damaged, and not safe. Here are some photos from a little over a year ago.

you can still walk behind the 300 loop, just not across to the right. It's where the wagon ride goes. And because 300 is a pet loop, you can bring your dog there as well.

I seem to remember in probably the far past they used to have a walk and small campfire with marshmallow roast and story time or sing a long sponsored by the Fort at a clearing somewhere along the swamp trail.

Cross the dam and go past the original FW Cabin and continue walking, however, unless something has been done since our Jan. stay at FW, you will not get very far on the walk. It is dangerous and much of it is just not there.

Going to take another look next month, this time when it is not late in the day so there will be more light and fewer blood suckers.

We started on that path ...past the cabin for a bit last year. I thought it was looking a little too creepy..and I saw bugs the likes of which I've never seen before. They sure grow 'em big in Florida, thats' for sure. I turned back, and my husband kept on for a bit and then returned. He wants to bring his camera and take some photos this year. Just how far is it that you can go...? I'm just concerned that you could run into some aligators ...is that possible..I have not idea what's along that trail, but given it's called the "swamp trail"...I'm a bit leary.
Was this actually cleared at one time for campers to use?:confused3

We have seen alligators near the swamp trail! It's been a few years - so it could be different now.

Before the hurricanes came thru and took a lot of trees down that fell on the deck of the swamp trail it was a nice place. I went there a few times and it was getting too unsafe to walk on. Another thing we can remember about the fort I guess. Used to be a theme park across that there lake but they tore it down to build a DVC Resort.:lmao:

Walked the trail many times years ago and it was great. Walked most of the trail a couple of years ago. Last time there, in Jan., it was WAY overgrown and DANGEROUS and could not get very far. Have never seen gators there on my excursions.

awww, if you don't feed them, they don't really care if you are around, unless you have a yappy little dog with you, JK!:lmao:

They hang out under the trees and smoke cigarettes.

this guy who went to the fort last year fed a baby alligator pizza and chips it was funny but then they look the alligator away:sad1:

I went to it in like February and there were some pretty big tress down blocking the path. You can climb over them but its not an easy hike to get anywhere. Its getting pretty over grown so in acouple more months it will be pretty hard to see anything.
