If I was going down that trail I would take my backhoe. They really need to clear out the old swamp trail.

Doesn't take long for Mother Nature to take back her own. Thank goodness we got to stroll along the trail before it went away and got some nice pix to remember it by.

Back in 2003 we took our golf cart down that trail. It was scary back then now its impassable. :confused3

I agree it is nice to see what the land was like when Disney first bought it.

Is that the "potato" vines in those pictures? I can see why Disney wanted to get rid of them at the fort. They are taking over those trees.

thanks for the photos

Back when it was maintained we took it several times and was a great walk especially along the wooden walkways over the water and I think back in the 80 and 90's they held a Swamp Trail hike around dusk that ended with a marshmellow roast down near the end.

We stayed at Fort Wilderness in September and made a first-timer's mistake of not planning to spend enough time at The Fort. We are going back to WDW the week after Thanksgiving. This time we are flying and staying at the Pop Century since it takes two days each way to drive there and that's a bit much for a one week vacation. Unlike last time, we are planning on spending a day at The Fort, renting bicycles, exploring. This old trail looks like it would be fun to check out, at least the part you can still get to. Where did it start? thanks! :scratchin

There are a couple of ways to get there. Either through the 300 dog walk along the canal toward the north (Bay Lake) or take the service road that runs along the southeast end of the Settlement Trading Post not too far from the wide path to the 100 loop. You cross over the canal. At the beginning of the trail ther used to be a small cabin and "activity" area.

Thank you so much for posting pictures of the Swamp Trail! When we honeymooned at WDW 14 years ago we rented bikes and rode them on the trail. It was so much fun and we really miss it. When we went looking for it on our last visit I don't think our kids believed it really existed. Now I have proof!! :cool1:

As over grown as that is, it's still beautiful to me.
Even tho the water at the board walk looks shallow, I'd bet you could pull some bream outta that swamp.,,Or at least a snake, :rotfl2:
It's been several years since I walked that board walk, but when we did, there was no water anyways near the board walk,, closest water was bout 20 feet away .

GREAT PICS.
