SWA Rewards expiration

I am pretty sure I know the answer to this but thought I would ask anyway. My mom is giving me her rewards to use to go visit. One of them expires on March 27 and we are flying on March 31 or April 1st. To use it we would have to pay the $50 extension fee, correct? Mom is hoping that the expiration date just means date to book but the way I am reading it I am pretty sure it is actual date of travel.
