Anyone know how to find the flight paths of future southwest flights? I am trying to figure out if the flight I am interested in is the first flight of the day, or will be coming from another destination. I'm looking out at the end of October, but can't seem to find any info on the flight paths.

Thank you! Everyone here is crazy helpful!

This is a hard one to figure out because flight routes are ever changing based on weather, maintenance, and flight crew scheduling. In a relatively small market you can narrow down where the PM inbound flights are coming from and take an educated guess as to whether or not this is the termination point for a given day. As an example, we fly out of BDL and always take an early AM flight to MCO. If everything is operating well for the prior day with regards to inbound flights from BWI, MCO, MDW, TPA, ATL and DEN I know that I should be good to go the next day. I also know that the first arrival of the day comes from BWI. In my example, I really don't know if the last BWI, TPA, or MDW flight is the actual one being used for my next days flight. There can be maintenance or crew scheduling issues that could impact your specific plane/flight.

My question to you is where are you flying out of and what time are you flying?

Thanks for the help! I'm in Oklahoma, and if we fly from OKC to MCO we will require a layover. I'm also considering driving to Dallas and flying nonstop to MCO. Both the OKC and Dallas flights leave around 8 am.

But SWA just did a bunch of route changes with this latest release of the flight schedule so there is no history for most of their flights after aug 5.

What is the flight date you are interested in?

You are my Southwest guru Shelly :)

I'm looking at October 22 (a Saturday).

I know I'm worrying far more than is necessary. I've just had so many flights go wonky (sitting on the tarmac for 5 hours, on what should be a 2 hour flight, staying over night at all kinds of cities because of a missed layovers, ending up in the wrong country, pilots not showing up, etc). I know it's totally out of my hands if something goes wrong, but I would hate to put my kids through that. If I can minimize the opportunity, it helps me feel like I have some sort of tiny control.

Wish I had better news for you but flight 2213 right now is showing that it is a Denver to San Diego flight. As I had mention before SWA redid a lot of routes and route numbers so the info you are looking to find is not possible to know today.
Boy most of the flights on Oct 22 have tight connection times. Ones that I would not want to do myself let alone with 2 kids. Factor in that if you have a 45 minute layover. SWA starts boarding 30 minutes before the flight time. Plus you have to get off your inbound flight which could take a good 10-15 minutes then figure out where your connecting gate is leaves you just about 15 minutes leeway which could be stressful.

Right Shelly? These short layovers are really making it tricky to plan! The drive to Dallas is about 3 hours, so at the moment I am leaning towards driving the day before, getting a hotel, and then flying non stop to MCO. It actually saves us a few hundred bucks, so it's a potential win-win!
I just wish I could confirm that our flight is the "first" one of the day...

That sounds like a great plan. Plus it a non stop which is even better. I say go for the drive to Dallas option. I will drive 2 hours to the Pittsburgh airport to take SWA non stops because they are cheaper than Akron and PIT offers more non stop choices than Akron.

Truly I would no worry about getting seats together. Your worst case scenario would be that one adult and one child will sit in one row while the other two sit one or may two rows away from the other two. But that is the worst case scenario. So don't fret about that. And since you are driving in the night before you can be settled and relaxed for your flight the next day knowing you don't have to take a connecting flight. :) You can also PM if you have any other questions or concerns.
