SWA Credit ...The 1 Year Clock....Stops When ?

If I buy tickets on Aug 27th/07.....but for one reason or another can't fly until a year later.......is the 1 year period from the Aug 27th date until the time you buy the next set of tickets using the credit,or does the one year apply to the time you actually get back from your trip (more than one year).
I do realize that they will extend the one year if requested,but I wondered about the circumstances if I chose not to do that.

The 1 year clock is from the purchase date of the original tickets, which in your example would be 8/27/08.
