SWA Changes

Pardon me if this has been discussed, I searched & found nothing. Looks like SWA is giving frequent (most likely business) passengers the ability to check in at the 36 hour mark.
Also they now have something called freedom awards, which you can trade 2 regular awards for & have no seat restrictions? Does anyone know what this means? I didn't think their regular awards had seat restrictions?

SW now has a new fare class that guarantees you an 'A' boarding pass and also is guaranteeing 'A' passes to certain frequent flyers.
