I'm considering booking a flight out of an airport that is two hours from home because flights are much cheaper than from my home airport. If I do that, and the rates go down at my home airport, could I then switch to a flight from my home airport for no fee? Or does the no fee only apply to changing itineraries from the same airport?

Yes you can switch airports. And no fee.

I just which us from arriving at MCO to arriving at TPA this morning because the flights were cheaper.

SW does not charge any change fees, no matter what you are doing. You could cancel completely and go on different dates (within a year from purchase) on a totally different route.

When you cancel your account gets credited. You can use the travel credit any way. It expires a year from purchase date, not travel date.
