SWA and ME

I'm sure this has been asked somewhere, but I'm not having much luck finding it.

I just got us booked for ME. We are renting a car, but I had to get it for my brother's family too, and got to thinking that it would be really nice for someone else to take our luggage. We are flying SWA.

I asked the cast member if we had to be on the bus for them to transport our luggage and he said no, that was our option. Also asked if I would have to claim my luggage since I was on SWA, and he said no, they get SWA on incoming flights, it's outgoing that they can't do SWA - you have to take your luggage with you and get your own boarding passes.

Can anyone comfirm this? Have you done it, and did it work? And do I have to use the return service if it's just as easy to take our car back since we'll have to have our luggage anyway?

I just don't want to go merrily to my hotel in my rental car, and never see my luggage again. :rotfl:

Thanks!

I haven't tried it but I have heard that you have to actually get on the bus for your luggage to be moved to your resort, it isn't a baggage service. If I remember correctly the bus driver scanned a bar code on our DME ticket when we got on the bus.

We flew SWA and took ME to our resort and we didn't have to claim our luggage when we flew in but had to handle it when we flew out.

You must check into DME, your vouchers are scanned upon boarding. These two things MUST happen for your luggage to be released as I understand it.

I'm sure 1 adult could escape to go get a rental car if that is your desire.

I would do it that way than try to avoid the ride for the balance of your party. All of you could board the bus and the rental car driver could take a "smoke" break and never return. If no one on the bus fusses when it attempts to leave it will do just that...leave.

If you want to return to MCO via rental car there is no DME police out there to get you...LOL Just let the hotel know you won't be returning to MCO via DME.

Each person gets 2 ME tag don't use the rental car persons ME tags use the other one's. That is what we are doing!!! The're four of us so we are using six tags but NOt DH so It is not a question when we load the bus if his bags will be taken it will have our ME tags on it. :goodvibes he rents the car and meets us there. Ya

when you flew out, where did the bus drop you? It is my frevent hope that there will be luggage carts or sky caps around the drop off area. Thanks for any information you can give me. I am flying SWA.

Our bus made 2 stops at the airport when we returned. We were dropped off right back where we started when we left. I remember seeing the ME check in desk so we must have been in the main terminal (A, I think). One stop had 2 airlines and the other stop was for any other airline. There were skycaps right there waiting for us. We had 13 bags (8 people, 2 weeks) plus our smaller carry on luggage so we needed help. He even took us out to the curb when we got upstairs so we didn't have to wait in the check in line since we already had our boarding passes.

We were dropped of almost dead center in the A side of the terminal level one. There was a skycap right there. He put out luggage on his cart, we took the elevator up to level three and went some distance to the left until we got to the SW checkin area. The sign indicated SW also had a checkin area on level one. I didn't see any cart rental stations. BTW our luggage was weighed.

Thank you Lewis, I appreciate the info. I like the idea of a check in area on level one. I also like the idea of skycaps there waiting.

Ok, I may be a bit dense here, but, why did the skycap take you to the curb if you were already checked in? Did he handle the bags or did another skycap tag them for the flight? Thank you for the information so far, I am more than a little relieved between you and Lewis.

DME drops you off on level one. My daughter had checked in online back home so I didn't have a physical BP. My travel information was in my baggage so I didn't have my PNR available. The skycap had me use the kiosh to print the baggage tags and reprint my BP so my luggage was tagged inside. The skycap handled everything.

I assume the previous poster had a BP so the skycap used the checkin desk at the curb to process the bags.

Some people have had a problem finding a skycap but there was one waiting. Otherwise I would have asked a DME employee to page one.

Hi Lewis,
Thank you. I had already figured out the dropping at level one part, the part I did not get was why the curb, but, your explaination cleared that up.
I really did not relish shlepping two 50# suitcases (yes, they are on wheels) and one medium (within guidelines) carry on through the airport. I think sky caps are heaven sent and more than worth the hefty tip I give them.

Just a warning, my bags were weighed. I have no doubt the skycap would have helped re-arrange stuff or rounding down the scale weight but I wouldn't count on getting a 70 lb bag through. I packed an empty duffle bag in case I was over weight.

they dropped the allowance to 50# and that is what I plan to have in my bags, but....., will bring that empty duffle just in case, good hint, thank you.

I've flown twice the last few months and both times my lugguage was over 50 lbs (53 and 57). Both times I had to open the suitcases and redistribute my clothes. I now went out and bought smaller suitcases so I can't overload them. I was on Soutwest one time and Song the other.
