I keep seeing all these people getting great rates from SWA. I go to their website and see them posted, but can never get them out of Detroit. Has anyone? What's your secret?
Thanks

fly Spirit. :rotfl2: We fly sw out of Buffalo, but my kids fly spirit out of dtw.

I just booked SWA out of DTW today for a day in September. There were several times available for their to MCO and back. When going to the Southwest main page click on southwest.com Systemwide Sale! link.

I occasionally can snag a decent rate on SWA out of DTW, to somewhere other than MCO. Most of the time I fly that route on NWA because it's a non-stop. Spirit can offer some good deals but their times are not that good.

Part of the problem is that landing fees at DTW are so high that the airlines have to inflate the ticket prices out of here to cover their expenses.

SWA is sometimes competitive, though it is increasingly rare. Before the Fall Florida sale, they were consistently higher than both NWA and Spirit (both of which fly direct) for our September weekend. The fall sale, though, was a really good deal if you grabbed it.

Even the DTW/MCO dings (which are rare) are often not good deals. I fly out of DTW, and ended up removing DING---I was rarely getting good prices to anywhere at all. The normal SWA sales seem to be better in this market.

Anyone flying out of S. E. Michigan should consider flying out of Bishop airport in Flint. Airtran and NWA both have non-stop daily flights to MCO. The airport is incredibly easy to navigate and long term parking is cheaper then off site parking at DTW. I have gotten NS flights to MCO as low as 196.00 RT.

I agree, It is really easy to get in and out of Bishop. I just got non stop on Ait Tran for the end of Oct. to MCO for $142 RT

You can fly from DTW to MCO with NWA for only $137 a seat roundtrip in Sept, Oct, and Nov. At least for all the dates I was looking at! I didn't see a cheaper fare than that anywhere. Checked Bishop too, it was $50 more.

Bishop is great if you've never flown out of it. Often the prices are cheaper, due to the low landing fee's and the lower passenger (higher empty seat) rates.

I've looked into Bishop too, and I can never find anything cheaper than SW or NW.

It's worth a few dollars more to me for the convenience of flying out of Bishop. I hate that nasty old Smith terminal that SWA uses at DTW.

Yeah, Smith is pretty bad! They're building a new terminal, I hope SW gets into it!

That would be great. We are having a new house built in Tucson Az and we fly SWA to Az about once a month. Great airline and great prices. As much as I like Bishop the savings on SWA are too great to pass up. You can always get NS to PHX for 196.00 RT.

Yes, the Smith terminal is set to be demolished after the "new Smith" is built. It still leaves us with the Berry (old International) terminal, but it is a step in the right direction.

Looks like its the same for most of us. Never can I get those 39 or 59 dollar ones from SWA. We are flying in early December so wasn't seeing good rates for either NWA or Spirit. We did run into a bit of luck though and were able to grab seats on NWA with our frequent flyer miles. Still for later times doesn't sound like SWA is a great deal for us.
