Please help! I was getting ready to buy our plane tickets for November and we have $16 each in travel funds left over from last year that will expire 6/15/11. When I went to apply them I noticed this:

If you apply Ticketless Travel Funds toward the purchase of a new reservation, your new reservation record will reflect the expiration date of the oldest Ticketless Travel Funds used to pay for this reservation. Therefore, the expiration date of your new reservation and all Ticketless Travel Funds associated with your new reservation may be less than 12 months. The Ticketless Travel Funds expiration date will be printed on your new Ticketless Travel Itinerary and Receipt.

Please tell me I'm wrong in reading this to mean that ALL of this new reservation will expire this month. It really means that $16 of each ticket will expire this month & the rest will expire in one year, right? I'm still in sticker-shock and really hoping the $149 fares will drop before our trip and we'd be able to use the difference next year.

I don't think you can use the funds for a ticket in November unless you call and pay to extend them. If they expire 6/15/11, you have to fly by that date.

And the entire new ticket does take on the expiration of the oldest travel funds.

Thanks for the reply, although I'd have preferred better news! :rolleyes1 I've never had a credit before but assumed (yeah, I know!) that I had to "cash in" the credit by the expiration date not fly by that date. Oh well, glad it wasn't a huge amount and now I can book the flight without worries. Thanks again for the quick response!

I noticied this when I made my Thanksgiving reservations when the schedule opened up last week. We have not used many credits on SW before, so I couldn't remember if this had always been the case. I wanted to use the credits we had but didn't like the fact any new ones would have to be used by January of 2012. I will continue to check airfare for any fare changes in my favor (not likely), however it is 99.9% certain I wouldn't use them since I only have till January to travel. I am already traveling in June and November. I guess if the credit were substanial I could pay to extend them, but again not likely to happen. In any case I was glad to have the credits to use!

Credits expire 1 year after the date your bought the tickets. Make sure you use credit prior to then

We had a $75 voucher from SW for damage to our luggage last year. It expired Jul7 31. I used it to book a trip I thought I was taking in June. I booked that trip in March. Now I'm not taking the trip in June, but the travel funds will expire July 31.

Has anyone extended travel funds lately? I know it was never guaranteed, but SW usually granted an extension for 6 months and charged $50 per ticket. Is this still the case?

Thanks!

call customer serive at southwest. They (like Disney) try to keep their customers happy. Always worth a call and a talk with a live person

I've let small amounts of ticketless travel funds expire for this reason. It just wasn't worth the small money savings to have my ticket purchase backdated.
