We live in Cleveland and we've been waiting for a ding our WDW trip in December. One came along for Columbus today ($39) and we decided to take it. We have family in Columbus and it's only 2 hours away, so we figured it was worth the drive.

Question: If we see a ding from Cleveland, can we change the flight and apply the money from the other tickets to a Cleveland flight? I didn't think we could, but a friend is telling me otherwise. She used to be a travel agent, but I trust you folks on this board more than her!

Thanks!

Southwest will let you cancel flights and hold the money to be used on future flights. Under travel center to can actually go to change existing flight and change it online. Now if the fare you find is cheaper you wont get a refund of your money only a credit for future flights.

Thanks, texasthree! That's what I wanted to hear! I can't believe we're going to WDW again! And at Christmas time!

If you change your departure city, you cannot get a refund to your credit card but will get ticketless travel funds equal to what you paid for the original tickets. These funds are good for a year of the original purchase (but may be extended 6 months with a call to customer service) Southwest does not charge a change fee.

You are absolutely correct, except IF it is a Ding fare you have to cancel your original reservations and then book the Ding fare using your credit from the cancelled flights. You cannot do that on the change screen. It is, in reality, an entirely new reservation.

The funds have to be completed within a year of the original booking. And, SWA does not always give an extension. They do most of the time, but, not always.
