DH is flying SW tonight--it looks like there are plenty of open seats on an earlier flight. What is SW's policy on taking an earlier flight? Do they charge? How much?

TIA!

Anne

As long as the fare for the earlier flight is the same, you sould be able to switch no problem/ no fee!

Agreed..... but if it is more expensive, he'll have to pay the difference.

He got a super cheap ticket for the flight he's on, all that's left are $200 tickets for the earlier flights. So you are saying he'd have to pay the difference between $48 and $200?

Seems crazy when seats are open. He's not going to pay $150 to get here 90 minutes earlier.

Anne That's the other side of the "no change fee". Your DH got a discounted ticket in exchange for committing to a specific flight. Southwest lets a customer change, without any fees, if they're willing to pay the fare difference. SW will limit DINGS and other discounts to non-peak flights. They don't want the gate area filled with passengers that booked the cheap flight but want to standby for the flight time they really want.

If your DH's original flight is scheduled to be delayed, I think by at least 30 minutes, the GA may waive the fee.

Lewisc is correct with his statement above. SW will allow a one time exemption if they see you are a Frequent Flyer of Southwest and will waive the change fee.

Southwest doesn't have a change fee to waive. I've never read about the "one one time exemption regarding to having to pay the difference in fare" on flyertalk.

Sounds like a GA was being nice and accomodated a passenger, but according to posters on flyertalk GA now get in trouble if they waive the fare difference. Fuel costs are up and airlines are looking for $$$.

I meant to say the fare difference not the change fee...:thumbsup2

I have moved my flight up 2x without paying the fare difference. That was moving it up 1 day both times.
