I called Swan & Dolphin over the weekend to check availabilty for rooms in Apr & Aug 2004 and I was told the Gov't Teacher rates were no longer available after Feb. Is this just what their computer tells them every year, or could they be getting rid of that program?? As far as I've know, they've had it for quite a few years..... I hope they still have it or we're gonna stay somewhere else in WDW....

You can always call Starwood directly 1 888 625 4988 and see if you can get more info. This is the first I have heard of the S/D dropping the teacher/gov rate! It doesn't effect me as we don't qualify for a discount, unforturnatly. I know alot of folks do though and will be disappointed!

You may be booking too far in advance. By February, did you mean 2003 or 2004? I just checked for Aug 2003 on Starwood.com and they still show a "government rate" (i.e. "teachers") of $129 a night. If she meant 2004, then what she said may have meant that the teachers rate had only been authorized thru 2/2004. I doubt that that is an open ended program and has to be periodically re-authorized to continue.

The govt rate is different from the teacher rate. You can book the government rate on the website, but the teacher rate you have to call. Sometimes they don't have any rooms for the teacher discount when they do for the govt one. If I were you, I'd call again and tell them your concerns. Maybe they don't hold rooms for feb?

Try posting on the Swan/Dolphin resort board. They'll know the answer.
