SW Ding program

I have been reading on the boards about the SW Ding program. I will be flying this fall, so I decided to go to the website and see what it is all about.

I was surprised to see that you have to actually download a program onto your computer to receive the "dings".

My question is this:

Does anyone else feel uncomfortable about allowing a business to download a program onto your computer?

How do you know what that program is doing?

I have Win98 and I downloaded DING into my computer and my computer when GOOFEY! I had to uninstall it just to get my computer to boot up! I trust SWA, but my computer could not handle this program...

I did feel uncomfortable until my DH who is a computer security nut went through it with a fine tooth comb and we also heard a radio show discussing Ding and about what a great deal it was and also about how safe it was. We have had zero problems with it on our computer even running Windows 2000 with the 'fix' to make it work. Saved 100's of $$$... definitely worth it

I don't think a compnay like SWA would risk their reputation with questionable software.

I loaded it and it worked great plus was able get to save some $$$ on our flight from Houston Hobby to MCO.

Thanks for the reassurance, but I still think I will pass. It really annoys me that these companies are so invasive. I even hate the reward cards-but have to get them in order to get the discount. I just use a made up name and address. I guess I am a bit paranoid.

The program is a good one, I love being updated when they put new fares up, this is the way to find really excellent deals. It only downloads a small program and I have had no problems with it whatsoever.
