If you already booked your airfare and you get a Ding with Southwest how do you change it to get the lower rate

just called SW and talked to someone at the same time as searching the forum online. Got a Ding tonight that lowered my sister's airfare to 64 each way. She now has a credit of 182.00 for another time! Can't wait til my DING comes now!

Please give me more information on how you did this. I already have my August tickets booked on SWA and have been watching for a lower fare. I do have DING installed, but can't get it to work properly. I'm afraid that I'm going to get a DING for my dates from BDL to MCO and won't be able to access the fare. Just to test out the DING site, I've tried to book other flights that have become available and keep getting messages that the flights have to be booked through the DiNG site. I have it already installed, I've followed the steps to be sure my firewall is not blocking SWA website and still cannot get this darn thing to work. I don't want to wait until my city shows up as a special and not be able to book it.

So, can I just call SWA if a special DING fare becomes available and have them change my flights to get the lower fare? Or will I have to cancel and rebook my flights? Any one else having trouble booking DING special fares? I don't know what I'm doing wrong. :confused3

Yesterday my Ding was for August from BWI and a total of $64 cheaper then I booked. I went to SW site, cancelled by reservations and got my full credit. The went on thru Ding and booked the new price and used my credit to pay for the tickets. I have a balance of $64 to use within a year left. It really is easy and I know my tickets will come down more. I'm not trying to play a game with SW, I really want the flight times I have and even if another fight was cheaper I will not change, only if the same flights at a lower price comes out will I rebook again.

That brings up another questions about SW Ding fares and cancelling and rebooking.

I just bought 4 tickets for hubby, son, and another couple on a great Ding! fare.

Let's say for arguments sake that another even greater Ding! fare comes out that lowers the price.

Will I have to cancel all four tickets and rebook them at the lower price, or can I cancel individual tickets and rebook.

The reason I ask. For my son and my husband it will be worth it to have the credit as they WILL fly within the next year. This other couple that is going with them, this is their first airline flight in their life, and this will probably be their ONLY airline flight, much less flying somewhere within the next year.

Granted, it's probably a neat thing that they would have this possible credit, but honestly it would probably go unused.

No you can't cancel individually, it has to be done for the entire reservation. Although I have head that you can transfer your funds to someone else so maybe if this other couple isnt going to use their refund credit they can pass it along to a family member that can.

barbnbrian: You have to FIRSt cancel the existing reservation, but make sure there is enough availability and the times you want to fly first on DING before you cancel your reservation. Then go to DING and rebook the flight, when it gets to the money part it will ask for you Ticketless Travel funds (you put in your past reservation number) and the money you had credited to you will pop up. You apply that money to your new DING reservation and the other money that is left over is still available for another trip within the next year. You can use up to four refunds also so if you find another DING down the line for cheaper, rebook again and then you can use both of your refunds towards another flight! Hope this wasn't too confusing!!

UMMMM what is "ding"? Sorry :guilty:

It is a downloadble tool bar from Southwest Air, that periodically pops up special limited time air fares.

Only problems is, I can't get my darn DING to work! I keep getting error messages. I follow the instructions to correct the problem, the whole firewall thing, etc. and I still can't get my DING to work.

How can I tell if there is enough seats available at the special DING fare before I cancel my 1st ressie and then rebook? Knowing my luck, I'll cancel what I have and then won't be able to get the special fare! :confused3

Are you booking it from work or home. I had problems at work using Ding and followed the suggestions of a post not long ago about
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=409794
I also have XP at home and don't have any problem with my Ding though....maybe try uninstalling and reinstalling it?

I finally got my DING to work. A special fare from BDL to MCO came out last night before I went to bed and it was expiring at 11:30 p.m. Where there's a will, there's a way. I figured it out! I had to turn off my firewall and disable my Norton Internet Security and then it let me book the special fares. I saved $289 on our six tickets I had already booked for August!

Good for you!!!! If you don't mind me asking, the $289 you saved, do you get that in a SWA credit or will SWA put it back on your credit card?
Thanks
Suzy

The $289 is in travel credit which has to be used by 3/06. Looks like DH and I will be making another weekend trip without the kids! I'd love to go in Dec. for the holiday festivities, so maybe we'll go for my birthday weekend!

there was a great ding rate from my airport to mco but it was thru 8/22 and i'm flying 8/25... drat!

i'm a bit hesitant to cancel my ressies before i am sure i have the ding ressie... how do you know you've "got it?" can you not just go to the swa.com "travel center" and change your rate that way?

gigi1313,
that would be my concern also. What if I cancelled a fare and then went to book the DING rate and the DING availability disappeared from the time I cancelled my original fare till the time I got back to DING to book it. YIKES!

ANYBODY?????
My SWA fares (mid-end Dec) won't come out until the end of July. I don't know if I want to spend the month of August (and perhaps beyond) waiting for DING.

I don't think they go as quickly as some think. When I got a DING it was almost time for it to expire 30 mins to go actually when I had talked to SW to try and figure out how to do it. They told me not to worry they had LOTS of room still left for that date! I was worried about the same thing. Just make sure you check the DING first, go all the way up til you get to the billing to find out if it is available, if so open up a new window cancel your old ressie then book the DING. It sounds a lot more difficult than it really is!

WAY TO GO BARBNBRIAN on lowering your airfare....NOW if only my dates would come up, why is it my sister keeps lucking out on all her plans and I am the one doing her itinerary!!!!
