Is the Southwest companion pass good for Caribbean flights? Will have I have to pay all of the foreign fees/taxes? One time I was looking at using my SW points on a flight to Jamaica and while I had sufficient points to cover 3 tickets, the Jamaican fees/taxes were like $271.

I remember reading something a couple of years ago about not being able to use companion passes on Airtran flights, but I thought the Caribbean ones were SW routes now. Can't say about fees; I was looking recently at points for SW flights to San Juan, the fee was the usual $11.20, not sure if that is because Puerto Rico is part of the US. So no help from me but I hope if you find out the answer you will come back and tell us!

Looks like I found my answer: The Southwest Companion Pass will also be good for international flights, including designated companions under the age of 18, according to Southwest. However, Southwest’ new international flights will come with higher government-imposed taxes and fees, costing anywhere from approximately $73 – $107 per ticket.

Yep, we are using ours to go to Costa Rica this summer! The fees going were about $20 and the return fees were about $60, I think.

Yes- we used it for Puerto Rico..... such a deal!
