SW baggage Question

Would a small garment bag that can easily be folded be considered a personal item along with a carry on? My DH is on a business trip for only a few days and would like to go carry on but not sure if he can with garment bag? Anyone know

I think personal items only include things like purses or laptop cases. I don't imagine a garment bag would be considered a personal item. This copied from the Southwest site:

Personal-type items include purses, briefcases, cameras, food containers, or laptops (case included).

Southwest Airlines limits carryon bag dimensions to 10x16x24 inches.

You are allowed one carry on (in the dimensions listed above) and one personal item (as stated above). As long as he is not carrying on another bag, he should be fine. Otherwise he'll need to check one.

i think the garment back would be easily folded so i hope it is ok, it is not the big solid type garment bags,.

is it when he goes through security when they decide, and at that point he would check it if unacceptable, or as he boards the plane?

Will it fit under the seat? the personal item must be small enough to fit under the seat. I don't know of any garment bags that would be small enough to do that, or does his other bag fit under the seat?

Why doesn't he just check a bag? or take a bigger garment bag and skip the other carry-on. Most guys can fit everything they need for a couple days in the garment bag.

It will be the gate agents or flight attendants who will make the call with regard to carry-on bags.
