They have slowly been going up in price. They have yet to go down during the past 3 weeks!
Flying out of BWI was cheaper at $221 per ticket. Well worth the 74 mile drive ;)

they are way out of control.

Me and my family are going to Florida July 3rd to the 10th and we've been pricing air fares for PHL (southwest) it will cost each other $314 and my nana $279 (since she's a senior) total cost of all 7 tickets would be $4411.80. Way to much.

I don't know if you ever heard of it, but we are thinking about taking the auto train. It leaves from Lorton, VA at 4pm and arrives in Sanford, FL the next morning around 8:30 or 9:30am. (can't remember which time) We priced it for the day we leave and the day we will return and for 1 adult it came up $93.00 (one way) and 1 child $49.50. (also one way) Also they put your car on the train for a some $$. Regular sized car is $360.00, Oversized car is 440.00 and i forget what a motorcycle cost.

I can't tell in your post if you have ordered the tickets or not, but the auto train is a good and fun option.

Have you checked Airtran prices? They are a bit cheaper than SW including paying for your baggage. Have you looked into splitting the airlines? Our travel dates are Aug 27 thru Sept 4 and I booked our flights to MCO out of Philly on US Airways and it was 402 including taxes & fees for 4 tix. I booked that airfare in October and last month I booked our return trip to PHL on Airtran and it was 446 for 4 tix. I was checking prices daily. Hope you are able to find cheaper flights!!

Every year I start looking now and start stressing about it. I normally get my tickets over the summer at much better rates than now. Airfare at this time is outrage. I am waiting for Airtran to hopefully release this week for October and see where I go from there.

WOW, that's nutty - especially for an area that you can drive from if necessary.

We live closer to Newark, but prefer the ease of PHL and found tickets on Airtran for $150 (nonstop, great times) for next month. I also just bought tickets two weeks ago for PHL to Portland, OR for $185 a ticket for August - which I'm thrilled about!

I would just be vigilant for a good sale, and see if playing with your dates helps. With trip next month, we fly on a Wed. and return on a Wed. - if we went on Friday either way the tickets more than doubled.

If not, it's not a terrible drive, just not one we can do this year - hubby has an actuary exam shortly after we return from vacation. Good luck!

Holy Cow!!! I thought our fare from ACY was high after all the fees with Spirit but we got a bargain!! I guess that squashes us flying SW next time.

Look @ AirTran out of ABE/Allentown. Those dates are much cheaper. On 8/18 there are $144 & $115. On 8/28 there are $144 & $94. Just a thought. :)

I tend to think that PHL and BWI are both going to have less bargain fares from the merge of SW and Airtran....

I'm traveling from PHL to MCO nearly the same dates as you.. hoping to leave 8/18 and come home 8/29. I've been checking alternatives like ABE, but all of it is too high. I looked into the auto train, but that would only save us around $100 roundtrip, and I'm not sure a $50 savings each way would make it worth the time on the train (19+ hours, plus a drive to Lorton, plus the drive from Sanford to WDW).

I'm hoping the prices will come down, but if they don't, I'm considering canceling and rebooking later in the year.

Wow! I'm glad I booked my airfare back in Feb I got $78 each way on Airtran back in mid February.:cool1: Im glad I had the money and did it then:goodvibes My dates are 8/20 Saturday from PHL to MCO and 8/29 Monday from MCO to PHL .Southweat at the time was $138 each way! Ridiculous so I decided to go with airtran we have flown them before with no issues.

Check everyday faithfully and sign up for southwest DING and Airtran E savers ! Eventually you will find something it also seems like southwest lately isn't giving the real good sales til mid 4 months out closer to three months from what ive been seeing.:wizard: Heck check spirit even with all their fees and cost of joing the $9 airfare club you may be able to strike a deal!

Right now on AIRTRAN you can get $110 each way for your dates thats pretty good! Im not sure how many ppl you have but for 4ppl r/t airfare is $965.60 with taxes and fees only other charges would be your Suitcase fees.
