SW air-help me understand connecting flights and boarding passes

if there in no direct flight available and i need to do a flight with a stop(actually has 2 flight #) so i assume we get off the plane and need to get onto another, right?
How do you do the boarding passes. Do you do one for the original flight, and do i need to do another or is it automatic?

When you check in for your first flight, you'll receive boarding passes for all the flights in your trip that day.
