Our First trip to Disneyland Paris. October 22nd - 27th 2007. Trip Report - Day 2.
Cast Members
Suzy (over 40!) Have been to WDW Floirda many years ago, loves pretty things and water rides, but hates roller coasters, rides that spin round and anything that goes up in the air!
Vince (DP, over 30) Has never been to a Disney park, didn't quite understand why I wanted to go, but loves fast roller coasters and taking photos.
Kira (DD, 5yrs) Loves the Disney Pricesses and is a real thrill seeker when it comes to rides, but is too small for most roller coasters at DLP
Jamie (DS, 4yrs) Loves Buzz Lightyear, Lightening McQueen and Pirates. Very much like me in that he doesn't like "scary" rides.
Wednesday 23rd October was our 2nd day at DLP but our first "full day". We were down for breakfast by 09:45am (told you we don't do early mornings very well! lol). Breakfast was busy but not overly so - not as bad as the reports I have heard in previous posts. We didn't have to queue and we found a table straight away. There was a good variety of things to choose from and we had slices of ham (unlike some of the other people who have stayed at the Holiday Inn who had reported that they had cubes of ham!). Breakfast over, I returned to our room and phoned Cafe Mickey to try to get a reservation for later in the day, but they didn't have a table until after 9pm (way too late for DD and DS) but could fit us in the following night at 5:30pm
With that meal booked and a plan for that night in hand we jumped on the shuttle bus and were in the park by 11am.
We wandered around Adventureland climbing up into the tree house and going into the caves before finding our way to Colonel Hathi's Pizza Outpost for the Dis meeting. It was nice to put faces to names so to speak and get some more hints and tips about the parks
. Once we had all warmed up with some hot chocolate and chat we headed off to the POTC ride via the suspension bridge and the pirate's ship. Here we hit a problem - while DS and I made our way down to the Blue Lagoon restuarant to try to make a reservation for that evening we lost DP and DD and spent a good 30 minutes waiting for then to show up. Turned out that they had thought we had gone on ahead onto the POTC ride so did the ride themselves and then waited at the end for us to appear! To say I wasn't in the best of moods by the time they showed up was an understatement and to top it all off, when we all went onto the ride then it broke down just as we sat down in the boat!
We waited a while to see if it would be restarted but they told us that it could take a while so everyone had to leave. POTC was one of the main rides I had wanted to do
. We did manage to book a meal at the Blue Lagoon though for later in the afternoon, so that cheered me up knowing we had somewhere to eat that night
We then made our way into Fastasyland (picking up a fastpass for Peter pan on our way) and did the Tea Cups (well DP, DD and DS did, I don't do "round and round"!), Story Book Boat and Casey Jr.
We then gave in to DD's pleading for a "Minnie dress (she had been nagging for one since we had arrived in the park the previous day), bought her one and then went and bought DS his choice of costume (Buzz Lightyear). We had time to ride Snow While and Pinocchio, before using our fastpasses for Peter Pan and then making our way back to the Blue Lagoon for our meal at 4:30pm.
It was a bit dissappointing that the POTC ride was still broken so we didn't get the boats full of people coming through, but we had a nice meal all the same. The only grumble we had with the meal was that the vegetarian option (a pasta dish) was totally uninspiring - it looked like it should have been a choice on the children's menu - pasta shells with a bit of bland tomato sauce - certainly nothing like the quality of the other dishes we had.
After our meal we made our way into Halloweenland, taking in all the sights and going to Phantom Manor (no queue at all, just walked in). DS was still impressed with all the pumpkin men and really believed that they start off as pumpkins and grow arms and legs and then come to life! DD isn't quite so naive, but she did have to ask DP is the things in Phantom Manor were real or not! DD and DS had a bit of a play in the Pocahontas play area before we made our way back to POTC to see if it was working yet - it was and hardly had a queue at all, so on we all went and this time it didn't break down
. I loved this ride (as I thought I would - I do like water coaster type rides e.g Splash Mountain, although it could have done with a few more drops to be totally brilliant! lol).
Then it was back to Fasntasyland for the Dumbo ride (5 minute queue) and another go on the Carousel (virtually a walk on). We took pity on DP at this point and allowed him 2 goes on Space Moutain (walk on both times) while DD and DS played on a car that was placed just infront of Autopia (shame it was closed by this time).
Once DP had had his fill of Space Mountain it was 9pm and the park was closing so we made our way back to our hotel for a cup of hot chocolate before falling into bed absolutely knackered! Although we did have to wait until the bed in the room next door stopped banging against the wall before going to sleep!
