Is there any reason why Premium cars, SUVs and Passenger Vans seem to be sold out starting on August 10th at all of the major rental places? With the prices they were asking, I am quite surprised.

I am finding the same thing here for the last week of Sept. :confused3

Good thing I have our van booked already.

Maybe the rental agencies took advantage of the CARS / Cash for Clunkers program.

Note: I'm only half-joking.

I thought the same thing. My 15 yo oil leaking, Nissan Altima didn't qualify, but my DS 2007 GMC Envoy did. Gee I wonder who is cashing in??

Thankfully we made our reservations for an SUV in March when the prices were half what they are now. As far as no cars being available, its been all over the news here that all the rental car agencies have downsized their fleets so there are alot less cars available in each classification thus the extremely high prices. They said that with the economy being the way it is and people not traveling they have cut back to cut their costs.

Sometimes an agency will show a car class as "unavailable" or "sold out" if there is no inventory available for the discounted/rate code you requested. Other times the computer screen will ignore your requested code and show you the best available rate.

Always try a reservation without any code before assuming there aren't any cars available. This occurs frequently with one way rentals.
