SUV with Mini Van Seating?

My wonderful Town & Country is on its last legs so we need to look for a new vehicle. I'd like an SUV - I really need all wheel or 4 wheel drive where I live. However, I LOVE the comfortable seating in my T & C - seats 7 with 2 captains chairs in the middle. With 3 kids and a lot of travelling this has been an incredibly comfortable car.

So, can anyone recommend an SUV that seats 7 (with captains chairs in the middle row) and is comfortable OR a mini van with AWD (again with the same seating)? Thanks for your suggestions!

The Toyota Sienna (minivan) offers AWD on one of its models.

As far as SUV's go, I don't think any of them offer seating like a minivan, although there's a number of them out now that have 7 passenger seating (but not with the captain's seats like you've described). The Subaru Tribeca might be something to look into -- all Subarus come with AWD. :)

My sister's Suburban has captain's chairs for the second row and a third seat. TONS of room in there!

Thanks for the replies! I will look into the ones mentioned, although I don't want to go with the huge truck-like SUVs. I think the Toyota Sienna and Honda Pilot may be the best to begin looking at. Thanks Again!

Don't the newer Town and Country's have and AWD option? I know they have traction control which is almost as good (we live in Minnesota so we get plenty of snow).

The Tahoe/Suburban/Yukons have the captain's seat options. I have it on my Yukon XL and we love it! It's so comfortable.

Also, the Toyota Sequoia offers the same seating configuration.

Our Chrysler Pacifica has AWD and the Bucket seats in the middle with a third row fold down seating. The third row is really comfy. The middle row is very comfortable with optional heated seats and VERY ROOMY... even my mom's mini van didn't have a much room in between the front and middle seats. It is classified as an SUV but it really mimics a mini van. It doesn't have sliding doors, and the front seats pop up to let you into the back seat. LOVE IT!

Chevrolet Uplander has AWD

FYI - It's also the Buick Terrazza, Pontiac Montana and Saturn Relay. We have the Relay. I went from a Subaru Forrester to this - I couldn't drive anything really huge but I can drive this.

Good luck with your search.

:)

I have 4 capt. chairs in my expedition and a power third row bench. On any american full size suv, you can get 2d row capt. I think they now may be available in medium size as well, explorer, etc. but not sure on that one.

I know you said you didn't want a truck-like suv, but I have to put another vote in for the Tahoe. Mine is super comfy and doesn't ride like a truck, has a surprisingly smooth ride. It is a gas hog however. Hubby has a f150 ext. cab and when I get out of it, and into the tahoe, there is a huge difference in smoothness of the ride.

We have a 2006 Nissan Armada LE that has Captains chairs in the middle row and a bench split 60/40 in the 3rd row. I love that the seats are so easy to flip up to get someone in the back row when we all go together. We have 3 kids too. It's really a great car with 4wd and stability control along with complete airbag curtains down both sides from driver to back window that would keep people safe in the unfortunate event of a rollover.

We had a 2003 Tahoe with both rows 3 seats each and it was ok but I hated when we had to put someone in the back such as carpool or friends they were stepping with snowy muddy shoes on the back of the middle row. With the Armada the seat flips up like a "car" backseat and they just step onto the rear carpeting! Much better idea!

We have officially begun our search - decided to look at Chevy Trailblazer/GMC Envoy. Although they do seat 7, the third row is very tiny and has no leg room at all. So, then we looked at the Yukon and felt that it really gave us the space we need - including headroom. So, if any of you own a GMC Yukon (XL) or Chevy Tahoe, I'd love more feedback. What kind of gas mileage do you get? I only get 14-18 mpg with my AWD Town & Country. We found a Yukon XL with captains chairs in 2nd row that we're going to look at on Sat.

My wifes crossover Cadillac SRX has AWD and seating for 7. She lets me drive it ..... sometimes.

I have a 2004 Yukon XL Denali with the captain's chairs. I love it! It's like a couch on wheels! LOL The gas mileage sucks - 13-14 MPG, but we knew that when we bought it. I had a T&C before this, and I loved that, too. We just needed the space and cargo area that the Yukon XL had. If you have any other specific questions, just let me know.
