Just seen on the local news that a suspicious device was found by maintenance worker under a bus. They have called in the bomb squad. The device is in a field and all bus service is suspended.

I'm going to move this over to our transportation board.

over on theme park thread someone reported that the item/pkg was not explosive and not hazardous....
not sure what that means as far as
WHAT it is and HOW did it get there????????????

Extra hours at parks. I guess that will be ok. Just hope you didn't have a dinner reservation.

Heard they were transfering everyone in by cab.

I have a friend down there now, sent her a text, but they probably are at dinner now.

"Normal service" will return eventually. As of 530 when I sat down to eat, the local news was saying that all busses are being inspected for additional devices, and that AK, BB and TL, will be getting extended hours due to the unavailability of busses.

Heres an updated story from the local stations Apparently it was a non hazardous device that was found:

I doubt that the SO is going to say in the next few hours what it is, so if it was intentional, they dont scare someone off, or have a bunch of people trying to claim it.

As fas as how it got there, it depends on where it was found under the bus, and how it was actually attached.I used to drive Disney busses and I dont know how many times I picked up stray parking cones, plastic bags and other assorted junk under the bus. Some of it you know right away its there,(like the small traffic cones from the parking lot that over eager and lost guests run over on the way out) and others you dont until the bus goes over a pit for inspections, which happens about every 3-4 months.Give or take(At least they used to go that often). It could be anything from something that fell off a guests car on the road and the bus picked it up, to something that was placed intentionally to get someones attenion (which it did) or as a test for something later. Thats just me taking a SWAG.

You are thinking the same way I am. It's not comforting to think this way.
I hope they do release more information of what it was and how it got there because this scares the hell out of me.

Yep. But I doubt well hear much more.If we do it will be a quick thing and gone. The 11oclock news didnt have anything new on it. If it was clothing or something like that, you would have thought they would have said something.I have a few frineds that still work over there, and I ll see what I can find out.

Everything is fine..it was just a scare.
Disney took all the buses out of service while they were checked. Needless to say it caused a bit of a mess. The Dis execs came out and told us all what was happening. In the mean the resorts used vans to shuttle people back and forth.
We finally got a bus to the Contemporary (from the studios) at about 6:30
We walked over to MK as the monorail was packed!!!
All in all everything was fine and Disney handled it extraordinarily well.
They ended up extending park hours at Blizzard and AK.

All in all there was some grousing (mostly from parents with tired, cranky kids) but ultimately the majority of us agreed better safe than sorry~and as I said Disney handled it really well.

We were on our way to the airport yesterday with Tiffany Towncar and we passed the buses all pulled in waiting to be inspected. It was quite erie. We also passed by TTC and there was a bus pulled akward in the road with the back off and police everywhere. Don't know if that would be the bus but they had evacuated the bus and all the passengers were getting cabs. It was very strange to see the buses all pulled intogether.

The bus in question was already in maintanance for scheduled maintanance. The bus was over the inspection pit when the object was found. There was never any guests on the bus in question, when the object was found.

Disney has 2 facilities to service busses. They have FIW, (Fuel Inspect Wash)which is a 6 lane service center for light service (Light bulbs, adjustments, inspections, oil changes etc.), fueling, and cleaning of the busses. This is the one that is shown on tv with all of the busses lined up infront of and next to for an inspection. Its the one you see next to the Hess station coming out of the MK/TTC area. They have a larger facility west(kinda.) Driving out of MK onto World drive its farter to the right behind the trees of of FIW. That is where the bus in question was and where all of the major work on busses (engine swap outs, rebuilds, tires etc) occurs.

The busses come in either during the day (early in the morn) or late at night,to FIW, depending on its series number,to have its fluids checked, and everything else given a once over, fueled, washed and either sent out on the road, or if there is something wrong its either fixed or the bus replaced. Every so often and I dont know what the interval is, the busses are pulled in, to one of the 2 facilities for oil and filter changes and other preventive maintance procedures.

I agree that Disney did the right thing with pulling ths busses for inspection, and I doubt other than a few people who will never be happy no matter what Disney did, said,or compensated them(Ive seen more than a few of those when I worked for the mouse)youll find anyone to disagree.

Some of us that are in certain fields, look differently at certain things, such as this.I dont want to go into details, since I dont know all of the facts, but on the surface some of us are concerened. At least until an explanation comes out.
